Would you rather play 7 matches or 4 matches?
Would you rather play from the start in a field where the all best players in the world were taking part or would you prefer to be parachuted into the last 16 of a field where a large number of the best players in the world no longer even take part?
Yes the match formats were a bit longer but Adams' achievement isn't even close.
Not only could he not win Lakeside until Barney finally left to join the other leading players in the PDC. He couldn't win the Masters either without Barney (and MvG) leaving as well as the seeding being straight to the last 16. It's not a coincidence that he won his 3 titles in those 5 most devalued of all Masters years.
Adams achievement was fantastic and sorry to win an event 3 times (Regards of the format, Byes & Level of players) it's still a brilliant achievement and only an idiot would think otherwise.
Anderson achievement was superb in its right too.

You can only beat what’s in front of you. There are countless similar events that have happened in darts and all sports where you could say so and so only won because they didn’t have to play so and so, blah blah blah!
Both achievements were fantastic, of course Bob’s is better but that’s by-the-by!!!

Depends on the standard of the opposition........ only a fool would compare different eras......BlueSpark wrote:Of course it was a bigger achievement, only an idiot would think otherwise.

3 years when the Worlds best played in it and from the round of 128, or when the second string were involved and it was seeded form the last 16 or 32?
It's a poser isn't it......

Re: World Masters
Not really depends on the quality of players one had to beat, stupid comparing different eras as I said. Trying to belittle one achievement against another is the stuff kids do in playgrounds......BlueSpark wrote:3 years when the Worlds best played in it and from the round of 128, or when the second string were involved and it was seeded form the last 16 or 32?

Grow up. You're just whiteknighting Adams to be contrary.Paddy McGinty wrote:Not really depends on the quality of players one had to beat, stupid comparing different eras as I said. When Bob did it all the top players in the world at the time took part and everyone played from the first round. When Adams did it a huge swathe of the top players had left for the PDC and he got bumped to the last 16 of the event.
Even if the standard of darts in the world had improved the task in hand is way, way greater. Beat a field of the best over many rounds, or beat a depleted field over fewer rounds.
Just like Lakeside, Adams played this for years with no success. The suddenly he wins it 3 times in the 5 years that seeds got byes to the last 16. Coincidentally, just after the last of the old guard, Barneveld had buggered off to the PDC.

Re: World Masters
What like G. Anderson, Wade, Van Gerwen????......if you are using this as your logic for your argument then you have to say that the PDC Worlds is much easier than the BDO Worlds.....as i say only a fool would compare eras, that's why i knew you would try.DavidOwen67 wrote:Grow up. Re: World Masters
What people have to remember is that Adams wasn't the one who changed the format to seeds coming in at the TV stage and he beat what was in front of him. In those years he was virtually unbeatable in the BDO and in my humble opinion would have scooped up a few PDC tournaments as well had he switched or had it been a unified field.
Is it a feat? - definately, Mr Adams proved to the doubters how much bottle he had and he deserves his place amongst the greats.
Was it as good as Bob's? Obviously not, Bob played from the start and in a unified field so that trumps Martin's achievement hands down.
Does it really matter? Not really as the records will always just show the winner.

Hang on, didn’t Adams win some of his Lakeside and World Masters with the now second best player in the world (who was also BDO number 1 at the time) in the field, no??
He also won Lakeside 2007 with the best player in the world as of now in the field...
In 3...2...1...
