They can put this on telly but it dont mean people will turn up.
The winmau masters and catas trophy had about a dozen people at each event.
Even if the bdo doubled or tripled that crowd it would still be pathetic
You and others trying to defend Des claimed this had nothing to do with him, and getting the "world pro" sorted was the problem of sportotal, so by that very same logic the credit goes to sportotal not Des.
Its not hard to grasp.
Sadly for sportotal, they cannot force or make people buy tickets, and the recent WDT and Masters had atrocious crowds, No spin or deflections can change those facts

In time when the bdo has no money then I would guess that quite a lot of people will care.oche balboa wrote:el_ringo wrote:Any news on how much Eurosport are paying for these rights ?

Skewball makes a point though.
Both the masters and the wdt lost money last year. In the midst of the celebration of TV coverage some might have missed the point that the bdo is now committed to running 6 events over the next 3 yrs that have lost a lot of money. If this trend continues then he us right, folks will care.
maybe sponsors and tickets sales will turn around the financial losses of these events (though the fact that the wc is having free tickets may point that confidence is still not high re people will pay for tickets).

Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
This is surely good news for darts....
Although I am pleased the BDO is on TV, after a catastrophic few months in which it seemed impossible, and have got a 3 year deal, the main issue is what money The BDO have got from Eurosport for this? If at all? It’s widely known that the main TV channels aren’t interested in BDO darts, so theres hardly a bargaining point for the BDO and Eurosport aren’t going to pay for something they can get for next to nothing.....
Still, more choice of darts on TV for those who enjoy the game, regardless of your thoughts on quality.

Exactly I wondered how long it would take people to realise this if the Eurosport are not paying a sensible amount for the broadcasting rights.devosteve wrote:

what sponsors ?
As for ticket sales, they are giving away tickets for free.
They had a dozen fans at the Winmau Master, the same dozen fans at the WDT, and now they are committed to these money losing events not for another year but 3 years.
If ticket sales dont pick up after one year, watch the prize fund slashed to an even smaller pittance if they dont cripple themselves financially first.

Great news, Good for everyone involved. Better than BT Sport for the casual viewer. Snooker and darts on quest, building a niche sports portfolio.

It’s great that the top Challebge tour players will be on tv for the next 3 years.
