Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport

Re: RE: Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
Lots of interesting things still need to be confirmed once the dust settles. Paying for production, stage sets and prize money principally. Has Eurosport actually paid any money , how are Sportotal getting paid. What will the venues and crowds be like.foggs3355 wrote:Be interesting if lakeside prize funds still 300k mens 29k woman’s will the wdt get prize fund increased 35k it was this year
WDT only a 2 (3?) day event?
Lots of interesting times ahead
And this will still be the best place to discuss them...

Will Eurosport pay £400k production costs? They don’t do it for anything else. They barely spend money on snooker production and they have an exclusive pan European 10 year deal on most tournaments.Skewball wrote:Lots of interesting things still need to be confirmed once the dust settles. Can't wait to see the spinning dartboard. In all seriousness, they need to get a production company who gets it right first time, not after a day in.

9 events over 3 years.Garry Murphy wrote:devosteve wrote:Skewball makes a point though.
Both the masters and the wdt lost money last year. In the midst of the celebration of TV coverage some might have missed the point that the bdo is now committed to running 6 events over the next 3 yrs that have lost a lot of money. If this trend continues then he us right, folks will care.
maybe sponsors and tickets sales will turn around the financial losses of these events (though the fact that the wc is having free tickets may point that confidence is still not high re people will pay for tickets).
what sponsors ?
As for ticket sales, they are giving away tickets for free.
They had a dozen fans at the Winmau Master, the same dozen fans at the WDT, and now they are committed to these money losing events not for another year but 3 years.
If ticket sales dont pick up after one year, watch the prize fund slashed to an even smaller pittance if they dont cripple themselves financially first.

Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
After all the messing around the BDO players have had in the past months. Which has been a complete farce. Wonder how many change there mind about Qschool and get duped like they do every year and carry on as business as usual. My guess is probably most.
Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
Could go either way in these 3 years? Could lead to a stable base for the amateur game to stay in hands of current set up but more likely will exhaust the financial reserves and Hearn will hoover up what is left. Dont see any way profits can be made from this but by same token they had to do something as were slowly going to the wall. Il watch it but the product itself is the main drawback. Twisting on 19 here but why not? Fek all else to lose
Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
Better news than expected from the BDO. Let's hope this works out, although I have my doubts about continuing with the WDT. Think it might have been wiser to focus on the WC and the World Masters first to build up especially the latter tournament again.
Re: RE: Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
Sums it up well but I think they should focus on the grassroots of the game and not on this top end where they simply can't make any money and compete. It will bankrupt themcraigmc wrote:Could go either way in these 3 years? If there are no additional sponsors, funding the prize money of these 9 events will more than exhaust the BDO finances.
Let's hope these are also on board.......

Re: BDO announce 3 year deal with Eurosport
Will repeat my earlier point the prize fund particularly for Lakeside is way too high given current BDO finances. Okay this year because of player contracts they probably have to pay unchanged amounts from last year, but after this and for Masters and WDT they need to radically cut back the money. Something like £25k to winner at Lakeside and £10 to £15k at the other two.DavidOwen67 wrote:If there are no additional sponsors, funding the prize money of these 9 events will more than exhaust the BDO finances.

But obviously not wanting to burn bridges with PDC they exclude Professional from the title.Ginge wrote:Bet365 upsetting a few
Have the BDO finally agreed to drop that, as it was a demand by Hearn and PDC.
