BDO Ranking Tournament Total Prize Money 2018

Post by Addicks Fan »

Here is the mens tournament prize money list for all ranking tournaments compared with 2017, broken down by region.

Both years use the exchange rates in the BDO criteria for 2017/18 season to allow comparison. A few tournaments have an assumed value the same as last year as I couldn't find a flyer for them (Australia mainly, shown in italics)

Main headlines are that overall prize money was down slightly. Asia was reduced to 1 ranking tournament in 2018, which must be a concern for next year. The churn in Western Europe was ridiculous and looks set to continue next year. Eastern Europe is growing in terms of tournaments and prize money, with an extra Slovak event and two Greek ranking events confirmed for 2019.

Changes highlighted in red:

The hot spots of WDF/BDO darts UK and Western Europe both have a reduction in funds.

Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Canada rise.

Asia has packed in by the looks of it.

Coincidence the PDC is growing in the areas that have upped the money or pulled the money out.

Early days yet, but it looks like USA, New Zealand & Canada will be pretty static in terms of prize money. Asia will just have Japan (again).

Western Europe has a fair bit of churn - The Vizcaya event in Spain looks like it has gone, along with a Belgium event. But there are now two ranking events in Torremolinos and West Fries, and two in France (none last year).

Baltic & Scandinavia loses both Finland events, but it looks like Denmark Open and Masters will go up in value, so not too big a drop.

British Isles - looks like the Wolverhampton events have been scrapped, but the new events in Ireland at the end of the year will more than compensate.

Eastern Europe - big growth here. Extra event at Slovak Open weekend, two new ranking events in Greece, two in Ukraine, and two in Russia. Northern Cyprus has two events, but not sure if they will be additional to Turkish events or a replacement - it seems as if the Turkish events are happening, but not sure if they will be ranked.

Australia - similar to usual, except that Darts Australia have announced an international tournament which will be broadcast, with the highest prize money for an event in Australia:

Of course it has, the wife of the chairman hadn't entered it yet so it didnt need bailing out again.

So that Aussie event will be in excess of £60,000?

Can't see that happening, can you? But that's what they say!
