Thanks misread that.

So wants a glory year as with Taylor. I guess this unfortunately means he will be guaranteed PL next year as Sky hype his final year.

Nobody on here can argue he deserves a spot through his recent darting prowess, unless they were on the wind-up.

Right decision the last 18 month he has been piss poor however his ranking after the worlds may not be enough to get him in the Matchplay or GP as he dosn't play Euro or Pro tour

Really smart decision, Barneveld is plumitting on the world ranking and this announcement will indeed give him that final farewell year with lots of invitations for world tour events on big stages, that he really likes. He also doesn't have to worry about his ranking anymore in ranking events. It could very well be that with no more pressure Barney will make a huge 2019.

Is likely to be quite an empty year if he skips the Pro Tour and ET again.
Unless he beats MvG in the Worlds 2019 he’s outside top 16 in the main OOM and not doing Pro Tour means not getting into majors that way so it’s only.

Worlds 2018/9
UK Open 2019 - all tour card holders.
PL 2019 - virtually guaranteed invite now.
World Series events, probably invited to as many as he’s prepared to do.
World Series Finals - assuming does enough qualifies him for Final without even wins.

Surely then Worlds 2019/20 has a big risk of him not qualifying. Can he stay in top 32 of main OOM with what he has just playing a few tour events next year.

World Series Finals is in the Netherlands next year, so RVB is definitely getting an invite for that.

If he reached the fourth round at the world championship and goes out to Michael van Gerwen. He will need another 30/40K of prize money to qualify for the 2019/20 world championship.

The end of an era and another legend of darts to retire.

Who knows what he will play. I feel he should go now.

Will definitely get a PL invite, a World Series invite and may qualify for the UK Open or Players Championship Finals if he plays he Pro Tour. Can't see him making much else, as it stands and based on how much of the Euro/Pro tour he plays.

Was superb years ago, BDO best when it was still relevant and when he switched the first 5 or so years was amazing against Taylor.

Won't miss him though, last decent game I recall was v MVG at Ally Pally what serms years ago.
Thinking of one.

As I pointed out the U.K. Open in 2019 changes format. No qualifying for the 128 tour card holders they are straight through to finals. So Barney definitely in that tv event.

The other players are top 16 on this years Challenge Tour OOM who don’t get tour card next year and 16 from the Riley amateur qualifiers.

Point is the Premier League is an exhibition and wildcards aren't given out purely because one deserves one, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to let Sky hand out wild cards. They want players that attract crowds and viewers and money. Either by playing well on tv or combining that with something else. They don't want Steady Freddy's that don't do much in front of the camera's. If for example Taylor is interested in taking a wildcard next year they will give him one, despite being unranked and not having played competitively for over a year.
