Quoted for posterity.phil davies wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 2:54 pmYep those 3 plus Jim Williams should get tour cards if they go to q school.Skewball wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 2:48 pmI full expect Scotty Dog (if he goes). Durrant and Waites to get tour cards. And this will really impact 'Lakeside' next year. I am enjoying Lakeside this year, as I have since I started watching in 1986. I love the way the venue comes across on TV, its perfect. If it moves next year, and loses two or three of these players then for me its really the end of a happy era.
The Davies kiss of death, there.

Which is why the current womens ranking system is a joke - no way should Jacklin be at the World Champs. There is no opportunity for players around the world to make it - who knows if there are any who are better than the players who are there? Unless some kind of regional qualifying is introduced we'll never know!

Nothing wrong with the current format really, just reduce the reliance on the main table.oche balboa wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:10 am I would abolish the Prelims but give a chance to players from around the world the chance to qualify. Justin Thompson did a fine job qualifying in the Top 28 which the competitions he has had.
The last 16 will feature players from England, Wales, Holland, N.Ireland, Germany, Canada & Poland which isn’t bad going in terms of a world competition
As for the Ladies. I would like to see the top 8 qualify as seeds. 4 players from overseas & 4 Qualifiers.

Would be great but I don't see it happening. The silence would be classic lakeside!phil davies wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 11:11 amI disagree that most are European if a lot of the Japanese and Aussies came over I would back them to pick up more points than a lot of the seeds. The same for women in Eastern Europe who don’t bother to travel and the likes of Paula Murphy in the States.Ginge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:30 am Maybe you could add a few regional tables into the ladies event but given most of the decent ladies are European anyway, would it really help?
Least it would mean that Suzuki woman wouldnt have to run the gauntlet of the Bridlington last chance saloon every time.
I sure do hope that this years final ends up being Suzuki v The Polish lady.
Maybe a Russian in the final.

phil davies wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 11:06 amLoads of women who are much better than those ranked outside the top 8 who don’t do the tour many of who are not in Western Europe. At most 10 should qualify from the rankings plus 4 regional qualifiers and the two from world masters qualifiers.DavidB wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:25 am To Phil Davies and Addicks Fan...
Why are the women’s rankings a joke (forget about prize money - we would all agree is a joke) but in terms of getting the best players at Lakeside?? I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t qualified other than Rhian Griffiths, Beau Greaves and Danielle Ashton who would add to the event??
I agree as Ginge says there should be regional qualifiers.
Out of interest, who are these women who are much better or is this a general point?? I'm sure there are many players like Suzuki out there but we just don't see for reasons already mentioned!

According to Paul there are a lot of good players in Japan etc.
He has been saying for ages that there needs to be more international qualifiers.

Expect a big increase in standard now. All the good players got through. Once again I think they have shown 40 players is just too many nowadays.
Cut it back to 32 or even 24 and ditch the womens until the semi finals and they could have a good quality product.

They could go to the old pdc days and go down to something like 24 but with groupsAstonvilla wrote:Expect a big increase in standard now. All the good players got through. Once again I think they have shown 40 players is just too many nowadays.

Is it not more about 1st round nerves getting warmed up etc more than the quality.
We get the same types of averages year in year out.
