Surely he needs to make the WC to keep it but he’s doing nothing in the floor events to win the money to get there on the Pro Tour OOM.

Nobody is really threatening him right now. But the World Championships or runs at something like the Grand Slam for some of the players people to overtake him. So he's not safe yet.

Raymond van Barneveld’s final competitive tournament in New Zealand will begin with a clash with home favourite Cody Harris, after the draw for the 2019 NZ Darts Masters, presented by Burger King and TAB, was made.

Van Barneveld, a former finalist on two occasions in Auckland, will hope to go one better this time as the World Series visits Hamilton for the first time.

The Dutchman has previously taken on Harris twice on the World Series circuit, taking victories over the New Zealander in Sydney in 2015 and in Auckland in 2016.

Michael van Gerwen, the winner in Melbourne last Saturday, will look to go back-to-back on the World Series when he begins his run with a match against former Auckland Darts Masters champion Kyle Anderson.

Top seed Peter Wright begins his campaign against the surprise Brisbane champion Damon Heta, whilst Gary Anderson takes on New Zealand World Cup representative Haupai Puha.

Brisbane runner-up Rob Cross will take on Warren Parry, who has appeared at the World Championship on four occasions, and James Wade faces Craig Caldwell.

Parry was brought into the tournament as a late replacement following the withdrawal of Corey Cadby for personal reasons.

Daryl Gurney, who made the final of the Melbourne Darts Masters last week, will open his account against experienced David Platt and Simon Whitlock faces New Zealand's Ben Robb, who recently competed in Brisbane.

The 2019 NZ Darts Masters will take place at the Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on August 23-24 with a limited number of tickets still available via this link.

The event will be broadcast worldwide through the PDC's international broadcast partners, as well as via PDCTV-HD for Rest of the World Subscribers (outside of the UK, Ireland & Netherlands).

Michael van Gerwen believes that his Melbourne Darts Masters victory has got his rivals running scared again!

The Dutchman ended a rare three-month gap between tournament victories by picking up the World Series of Darts title at the Melbourne Arena on Saturday, defeating Daryl Gurney 8-3 in the final.

Van Gerwen's win was his first title in eight events since claiming the Premier League in mid-May - his longest time span between tournament victories for over four years - but he is in buoyant mood ahead of the NZ Darts Masters, presented by Burger King & TAB.

The World Champion opens his challenge for back-to-back titles against Australia's Kyle Anderson at the Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on Friday in a mouth-watering contest, and he said: "They are all scared again now because I won a tournament!

"I didn't do too well over the last two months and now I'm back to winning ways, so I'm going to put the pressure on them and we're going to see what's going to happen. My talent is permanent, don't worry about that."

Van Gerwen also saw off Tim Pusey, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright in Melbourne, whitewashing the latter in the semi-finals.

"I'm really I glad I could put in a good performance and I'm a happy man," Van Gerwen added, speaking to DartPlayers Australia. "It's good to be winning."

Rob Cross believes that the home challenge will be stronger than ever in the 2019 NZ Darts Masters, presented by Burger King & TAB.

The 2018 World Champion is aiming to claim his second World Series title this weekend at Hamilton's Claudelands Arena, which is hosting the World Series for the first time.

Cross, last year's Brisbane Darts Masters winner, is one of the top PDC stars lining up in a 16-player field which includes five New Zealanders.

Whilst Cody Harris has spearheaded New Zealand's challenge on the world stage by basing himself in the UK, Haupai Puha and Ben Robb have emerged on the domestic DPNZ circuit in the past 18 months.

In addition, Craig Caldwell and Warren Parry have gained big-stage experience within the PDC.

Cross, who meets Parry in Friday's first round in Hamilton, feels that the nation is ready to challenge for top honours.

"Everything seems to be getting stronger and the standard is going up, so I don't see why we can't see why we won't have a New Zealand finalist this week," Cross told Newshub. 

"Cody Harris is always dangerous and there is no reason why he can't go all the way."

Cross made his World Series of Darts debut in 2018, which included a first visit to Auckland, and the Hastings ace added: "It's great to be back

"I've had a great trip during the world series and it's fantastic being back in New Zealand.

"When I turned up here last year... I'd never been on such a long flight. I'm much calmer this year and I'm ready to see more of this beautiful place.

"We came in on Sunday and wandered around Auckland. There are some nice people here, great restaurants, and places to go walking and explore."

Have to say, I thought Ben Robb was fantastic and fully deserving of his win over Whitlock.

Of the 8 players left, my money is on Gurney at 11/2.

Impressive tournament!

Just finished watching tonight, and have to say, probably glad the international rounds are finished.

Overall, having gone to Vegas twice for the US event, and having gone to the Finals twice in Glasgow, have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the events.

The opposite side of the coin for me is, that the delayed coverage on the Australasian part of the Series does not work well. Would much prefer it being shown live early morning and those who can't watch it live can use Sky+.
