Or maybe the total opposite, he managed to snare a 25 year old on Tinder at short notice and he is taking her to his grief hole in Tenerife.

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD will miss the Betfred World Matchplay after withdrawing from the forthcoming PDC ProTour weekend in Wigan.

The Dutch legend had been hoping to qualify for a farewell appearance at the Winter Gardens during his final year on the PDC circuit ahead of retirement.

With two Players Championship events and one European Tour event remaining before the cut-off for the World Matchplay, Van Barneveld still had ground to make up if he was to secure a Blackpool place.

However, he has now withdrawn from the ProTour weekend due to "unforeseen circumstances", meaning that he cannot now qualify for the World Matchplay.

The 2010 World Matchplay runner-up to Phil Taylor, Van Barneveld also landed a nine-darter on the Winter Gardens stage in that event and played in the event on 12 occasions, making his debut in 2007.

The Dutchman remains in a stong position to secure a final William Hill World Darts Championship appearance through the ProTour Order of Merit, having earned £20,000 so far in 2019.

This weekend's Players Championship events in Wigan will be preceded on Friday by the European Tour qualifiers for the Czech Darts Open and Austrian Darts Championship.

The Betfred World Matchplay will be held from July 20-28 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Click here for ticket information.

Instead of the headline reading

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD will miss the Betfred World Matchplay after withdrawing from the forthcoming PDC ProTour weekend in Wigan.

Surely it should say

Barney will not play the Matchplay due to not earning enough coin in the very few events he decided to play as he is no longer good enough.

Think the break between the World Series event in Vegas and the start of the Matchplay this year negates any possibility of the former event impacting on the ability of the players to perform in the latter.

For context, the reason Cullen was applauding and grinning like an idiot is that in the previous leg Cullen had a 10-darter.

CHRIS DOBEY believes the Betfred World Matchplay could see him break into the world's elite after effectively securing his Winter Gardens debut.

Having come within a win of his first PDC title in his first big-stage final at the Danish Darts Open last weekend, Dobey cemented his place among the 16 ProTour Qualifiers for July's Blackpool event.

Since reaching the quarter-finals of the 2018 Players Championship Finals, the Geordie has gone on to reach the Last 16 of the World Championship and make his Premier League debut in front of his hometown.

Following his latest success in Copenhagen, Dobey is now determined to continue his climb up the rankings with a strong showing at the World Matchplay.

"Blackpool could definitely be a breakthrough for me, if I do well there it could take me to the next level," said former Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist Dobey.

"It's the one tournament I've always wanted to play in so I'm really looking forward to it and I think the long format will suit me.

"After Copenhagen I was played with how I played over the weekend but I was straight back on the practice board on Monday.

"I went there to do the job of securing my place in the World Matchplay, which I did, and I also got a couple of monkeys off my back in beating Gerwyn Price and Ricky Evans for the first time.

"Unfortunately in the final I didn't give Dave [Chisnall] the game I should've done, but that's darts and I'll come back stronger and learn from that."

The Betfred World Matchplay will be held from July 20-28 at The Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

Broadcast live on Sky Sports, the tournament will see 32 players competing across nine days.

Seeds now confirmed.

Every year I post how this could be the best ever Matchplay, and have to say this year is no different.

The PDC Tour qualifiers look really strong and although would like to see at least one of West, Meulenkamp, O'Connor and Hughes to qualify, looks like Keegan Brown is the one most likely to usurp Kyle Anderson out of the final qualifying spot.
