Give the poor bloke a chance.
He has been busy moving his own comp from Turkey to 'Northern Cyprus' (a place that doesn't exist) and negotiate his "ULTRA ALL INCLUSIVE" package. tasting branded vs local drinks isn't a quick job you know. I'm sure he will get round to these trifling matters after his latest 'well earned break' in the sun.

My immediate thought, a 1980s reference:

Having said that, broadcasters normally anticipate it and set up microphones accordingly.

just realised this is only 3 months away now, got to bin now haven't they? Unless a sponsor covers everything then they are not going to sell anywhere near enough tickets now, especially as its coming up to holiday season. Would be madness to run it at a loss again. But would be very embarrassing for Des to cancel it, so how much of a loss will he be willing to take to save face....

3 months is nothing. Quite sure Preston was announced with only 2 months notice.

EDIT - just checked. Announced 13th Feb last year, started 30th May. Maybe not, then!

In 2017 though it was only 1.5 months (announced as Memo Arts Centre on the 12th April, started 26th May)

Worse than last year then announcement wise. Well done Des.
Going to be a disaster then if it goes ahead then. Lets hope they still have the black curtains.
Just cancel the bloody thing Des, you can still blame the old board..!

A matter of weeks after confirming the field, 10 months after a statement saying all these glamorous new venues were in his pocket?

i might be a bit naïve here: surely des would not have just made up the fact that he had talks with sponsors and had been in contact with venues?

maybe he was a little over confident that all was going to all into place?

re this event. Cut your losses. yes tv coverage is sorted. But cancel and focus on the other 2 majors. if they cancel you are not going to get a player leaving for the PDC because of this decision. Yes they will be cheesed of they lose a pay day but the BDO need to start seeing the bigger, long term position.

He probably had lots of talks, however rather than articulate that he was working hard to secure sponsorship and venues, he chose to massage the truth in an effort to procure the Chairmanship of the BDO, despite posting on this very forum that he had no interest in taking over the BDO. More tales than Hans Christian Anderson, however his tactics worked as he was duly elected.

Probably. A little more shaved off won't harm the coffers.

Suppose you have had players happy to travel to Holland for years to play on TV over 3 days for €5k, so thats about £4300 once the banks cream their cut off the rate.

Cut it to £4k for the winner then. Think it was £8k or £10k last time.
