If it's inhouse ticketing then they are screwed !!
KGH have a great box office team who would push this, so it's all down to Des to promote this.

In the Jackchin corporation the head of promotions and the marketing mastermind behind the Northern Cyrpus Republic Ultra Jolly is Paula

What can possibly go wrong ?

Anyone emailed the venue yet to ask how much it is to book the same room for their own private function ?

It's on their site - The concert hall is £3,500 per day and the Windsor suite is £1,500 per day

Call it a six day hire then for set up and strip down and to play the qualifier. £21k, probably get a discount on that, will easily still be five figures though.

He doesnt want the event to run, I highly doubt he would increase it. If anything it may get more shaved off.

He doesnt care about the players, the email proves as much. It effectively said "I dont care if International players pull out", this event is only happening because the Eurosport contract demands it. Fair play to him for admitting he would have cancelled it.

His predecessor ran it merely for vanity without a hint of getting rid

As I said a few weeks ago, they all happily went to Holland every December to play for a €5k pot, so why not just pay £5k to the winner rather than £8k?

The Europsort contract doesnt stipulate prize money though. He knows the event is going to lose money unless by some miracle he finds a sponsor, so why not cut the money down to Zuiderduin/Finder levels? Wouldnt be at all surprised if he did.

Why not go even lower? The Setenta events had them playing for a £3k (and lower) cheque on telly back when the Opens were televised. And some TV finals have had players playing for £0. Obviously playing for £0 would be absurd here, but there we are.

But yes it is ironic that they are being strangled by their own contract, its totally ridiculous. Have they even tried to renegotiate it?

Why can't Des sponsor it himself ?

2 tickets, flights ., transport etc to the Ultra Northen Cyprus Jamboree could come to 2k with a bit of spin

Surely everyone in the BDO would rather have this than cold hard cash ?

I agree. Will be a bit lower. I think he will do all he can to make it as cheap as possible but still look ok on TV. No expensive MC (!), reuse stage/set; Low Prize money etc
Not easy but get lots of people in on free tickets and it will look fine.

Did we ever find out whether Eurosport are doing production as well? Or is that another nice big fat cost that the BDO have to stump up.

Fair comments. I think in the future have the World Trophy & BDO Gold Cup have some sort of merger. And make this event a qualifer for county players (16 places) & the top 16 of the bdo rankings.

They used a new company for the Worlds and Des was very complimentary of them. I assume they'll be the company used again (the name escapes me at the moment).

Couldn't they offer free tickets to BDO Fanatics members. Be a good way to get the hardcore fanbase back on board. The BDO board have created a lot of bad will with them recently.

Yup, also had a Barney Exbo in the main room and it was 3/4 full.
Held the John Smiths finals which was the event that got you on stage at the Lakeside(teapot Jones won the thing our guy was Mick Taylor.
I was there that day. My mate lost narrowly to Teapot in R2. Ashdown and Gulliver were there with the sponsors.
