Yes, it was pleasing to see a BDO event fairly well attended and at a presentable venue. I recall a few years ago when they held it at Barry Town Hall or YMCA and the crowd was smaller than the one that would be at my funeral.

Random thoughts and musings on an entertaining 3 days of darts.

Performance of the tournament from me was Lisa Ashton in the final. Brilliant.

Should retire right now: Gary Robson, Paula Jacklin, Trina Gulliver MBE and Ross "The Turnip" Montgomery.

I wish I had some hair left so that I could emulate Veenstra's 1980's perm.

Really pleased for impending father Jim Williams. Seems like a good likeable young lad. He did well to concentrate with his wife long overdue. Been there myself and I certainly wouldn't have been able to apply myself to winning a prestigious darts tournament.

Mason and Rawling did a really good job and kept me entertained for 3 days solid. Thank god they forgot to post Paul Nicholson's job invite.

Perhaps Glen Durrant did get it right and the BDO are turning a corner. It certainly wasn't the car crash event it could have been.

Nicholson was elsewhere on comms for the PDC Austrian comp.

Someone mentioned Anna being blanked at final walk on. on Saturday I was down the front and to honest Anna was just 'in the zone' and walked down, looking straight ahead. I am not knocking her for that btw.

Trina was the opposite in her walk on. Gave every one a kiss, including myself! I felt for her though. She looked so frail and, imo, did not look well at all.

God bless her, just wish I had more on it than I did.

I won't say something is great when I didn't think it was though..but some people may have thought it was so fair enough... Opinions.

The BDO will have lost a lot of money on this comp. No headline sponsor, expensive production costs and poor ticket 'sales'.

But, it's a gamble that perhaps they had to take, it's there for three years so they are banking on reversing the losses next year. It will be the same for the Masters. We won't really know the pay off of this gamble for a couple of years yet. Got to start somewhere but I suspect the finances will look shaky for a bit and will they hold their nerve..

I am just glad he wasn't polluting the Eurosport airwaves. My mind goes back to that mindless guff he was prattling on about when 2 Aussies were playing at Lakeside. Thank god I had The Samaritans on speed dial that day.
