What a spineless medium. If you publish you should stand behind your story or not publish at all. Pulling back a story is the most demolishing thing you can do for the reputation of a medium

That may be so, but Bram is quite right. If you're going to publish a story like this, which seems to be breaking a story not currently in the public domain, you've got to be absolutely sure of your sources, and be prepared to stand by your story, even when one of the subjects publicly refutes what you've written.
If you're going to start taking down stories and / or publishing hastily written apologies at the first sign of any resistance from one of your story's protagonists, you're just going to come across as a thick as pig shit chancer who is making it up as they go along.

Put it this way: even if it turns out the original story was correct, the subsequent behaviour of GameOnDarts once Deller got on his hind legs suggests they didn't actually have a clue whether what they were publishing was correct or not. So how likely are they to be taken seriously with anything they publish in the future?

They should have consulted DBG....

Had they done that there would have been no back peddling.

GameOnDarts doesn't have the greatest reputation in the German fan community. Just a bunch of blundering kids in over their heads trying to play darts journalists and influencers.

I'd never even heard of them until this, but this episode alone suggests they are quite inept at what they're attempting to do.
