"‘Especially when I’ve opened my mouth and told people I’ll announce in the last week in March, that it’s going to be great. It makes me look an absolute bloody idiot"

They never learn do they?

"I’ve been a bit naive I think"

Hang on, what happened to the business genius and master negotiator we were promised was taking over the BDO, and would lead it to triumphant new heights???

Its a good job a proper businessman like Roger Schenia (sp?) didnt get the job, what with his conflict of interests and all that.

"I've been a bloody idiot putting timescales on this". Proceeds to state new timescale ...

to quote someone on fanatics. Fair point he makes

but des seems confident enough to say news will be delayed and will have 5yr sponsorship deals..

Is he blaming the Warren Brown fiasco for the delay?

Only 2 or 3 more weeks to find out who is the new 5 year sponsors of the world championship. Hopefully it’s a company with a higher profile than sugarart of Lincoln, although they do make some nice cakes.

I'm beginning to warm to Des, not afraid to take responsibility and stand up, something the BDO have been lacking.

This 3 year thing, anything to do with DeLuxe and a venue perhaps?

Keep dinging that bell Des You're doing a wonderful job

Hate to tell Des this though this is a serious job he undertook and it wasn't an audition to replace the missing Chuckle brother

Barry Hearn must be having sleepless nights

You missed the bit where he makes a point of blaming it all on some unspecified thing that happened 3 years ago, and is at pains to point out he wasn't around in those days, then?

I don't deny he's being a lot more proactive than the previous board, which isn't difficult, and there are definite signs of progress on his watch.
However his whole "blame it all on the last lot" gimmick (which you may recall he also trotted out when he was struggling to get Lakeside on the telly) is going to get tiresome very quickly if it remains his default setting every time he suffers a set-back.

He said in his 'election' speech it was all new high level sponsors and all new venues he was able to bring to the table so that should have zero connection to anything deLux fiasco was connected with.

Not necessarily. His definition of "new venues" could simply be ones which have never hosted a BDO event before.
In that case, having Warren Brown default on the deposit for an event which never happened wouldn't stop a venue being classed as "new"
