Going to the wire! 'Wez' Wes Newton has been poor for so long I can't believe England have to rely on him to win the match!

Make that 4 times - Mitchell fired in a 111 average to win his match this afternoon against Scotland. England being pushed all the way in the mens event, strolled the Ladies one!
Must be the boards.

I think you’ve explained exactly why it doesn’t happen often, such a short match if you make a slow start you ain’t gonna suddenly start to fire in a best of 5/7 match which is probably why in longer matches which is the norm in other events you see higher averages as players settle down and have time to improve.

We need more ladies darts oin TV!!
Who doesn't want to see whitewashes by some ladies hammering in 67ish averages although the opponents threw a 50ish kitchen sink at them?
Or nerve-wrecking nailbiters where just one point in the averages made the difference, and an almost 68 wasn't enough in the end?
Sharon Frog even bettered the 68 by an insane 10 points in her close and heroic encounter, while - in one match only though - the golden girl turned back the clock and cranked her average up to just slightly below her own age!

If this would not make must-see TV, I honestly don't know what else would.

Jacklin's low-60s averages are 24 darts. Of the England players, Only Sherrock slipped into worse than 23 darts. Jacklin would probably have been able to win a game.
