Rafael van der Vaart is a half decent player. Would be great to see him win a game.

Hasn't his brother entered as well?

Yep that’s right just over £4k just under £2.9k for the other event.

Over £3k too if a women was to win both events.
Only two open weekends with more Singles prize money - Welsh and England. Hope the numbers are good for this one

Of particular interest to me was that I founded the very first Danish Open ( with help from a few keen Danish players) way back in 1974.

This was an attempt to get darts organised in Europe which at the time was almost non existent,

And today 45 years later it would seem to in very good hands and still running.

The same year I also founded The World Masters won by Cliff Inglis who played for me in the West of England Darts Organisation. Cliff also played in the first Danish Open.

In 1974 to help get the Danish Open off the ground , I arranged for a party of forty players from the United Kingdom to travel and take part in the first Danish Open.

Many who played for me in the West of England Darts Organisation ( the Manchester United Team in darts of the day)

There were 242 entries for the first Danish open ( men only)

Among the entries were two players I managed Leighton Rees and Alan Evans.

Surprisingly it was another less known player from the West of England team who won the first Open , a very good friend of mine, Bill Geary from Faringdon in Oxfordshire with Cyril Hayes from Taunton the runner up.

Bill Geary had two ten dart legs on his way to the title.

Entry fee was equivalent to £1 .

Bill won £1000 equivalent in prize money - a huge prize in 1974 , £500 put up by Bill Sheppard , Chairman of the West of England Darts Organisation.

Bill Geary also won £200 for the most 180’s in the tournament a total of nine, the 180 ‘s prize put up by the House of Darts International.

Who would have thought 45 years later the event is now I believe the second most important
European tournament on the BDO side of darts.

Is it the second most important?

In Europe? No.
In CONTINENTAL Europe (which i assume is what he meant)? Well this and the Dutch have the only A+ ranked events outside of the British Isles and IoM. So suppose its the joint 2nd most important. Depends if you think the Finder Masters is more important or not, think that has less ranking points, plus is in doubt anyway.

It’s hard to argue with anyone awarded an MBE.
Eddie Norman also sounds like a man you can trust.

I'd say the 1st at the moment. Considering Finders doesn't exist anymore. And no news yet of it continuing.

No King of the Hill. At least of the tournaments that aren't masquerading as a package holiday.

So you dont consider the Dutch Open, which is also cat A+ and has thousands more at it, at least as important?
