The PDC age restriction is 16, which makes sense for an organization run for darts professionals. They have chaperone rules for under 18s.

BDO normal adult age is 18, which makes sense for something that at an amateur level has pubs at its heart.
Troll comment about the BDO aside, I agree with this.

All darts is pub darts.
I wasn't trolling. BDO rules reflect the history of darts and the fact that it covers the amateur game.

PDC treats darts as a job, so the minimum age is the age at which people in the UK can leave full-time education.
Not the issue. The issue was saying the BDO is pub darts.

All darts is pub darts. Whether PDC or BDO.

No. I said that the BDO includes the amateur game, of which pub darts is the core.

If the legal drinking age were 17, I'd expect the BDO rules to have said 17.

The BDO really needs to change its rules to allow the better players under 18 to compete in major tournament qualifiers. They could define a standard that needs to be met, whether by ranking or reaching later stages of tournaments of a particular category.

For some reason it doesn't sit right with me re kids qualifying for lakeside (boys or girls)..

good publicity or short term novelty publicity?

3 or 4 kids qualifying in a couple of years,: would that look good for the bdo? I don't think so.

The hype from bdo quarters speaks of desperation to me.
It would be a great thing to see players of all ages at Lakeside. We could have Leighton Bennett at 14 & Martin Adams at 63
Correct darts is not a age restrictive sport. Hence why you have had 16 year olds and 67 year olds play at the worlds before.

The only stupid part is allowing them to qualify via the table but not enter the qualifier.

Correct though Bennett would be 15 by the time Lakeside took place.
14. He's 13 now, he'll be 14 on 31/12/2019.

I know I was mistaken thinking he turned 14 last December hence why I changed the post.
