Report from BDO.

THE POLISH OPEN and Police Masters returned to the Hotel Dobosz this weekend, attracting over 350 players to compete in the BDO ranked CAT C and CAT D tournaments.

Saturday’s Open saw the Netherlands’ Toon Greebe take his first title of 2019, which also sees him secure his place in the World Masters for his fourth consecutive year. Greebe took the title 6-3 over Poland’s Sebastian Steyer in the final.

Greebe had earlier beaten England’s Leighton Bennett in the semi-final, and Welsh legend Martin Phillips in the last eight stages. Steyer’s final spot came as he beat Lincolnshire’s Simon Stainton in the last eight and Middlesex’s John Scott in the semi-finals.

The ladies event saw unseeded Dane Fie Skinnes take the Poland Open with a narrow 5-4 win over Germany’s Stefanie Rennoch. Poland and 2019 Lakeside qualifier Karolina Podgorska, and the Czech Republic’s Anna Votavova were knocked out in the quarter final stages, with Votavova earlier knocking out number one seed Deta Hedman in the last 16.

The Police Master’s saw Greebe make his second final of the weekend, however the Dutch thrower couldn’t quite overcome Wales’s Mark Blandford, who also took his first title of the 2018/2019 BDO season with a 6-4 win. Belgium’s Mario Vandenbogaerde and Poland’s Krzysztof Kciuk both suffered losses in the semi-final stages.

England’s Deta Hedman was back to winning ways as she won the Police Masters with a 5-1 win over the Czech Republic’s Anna Hlavova. Karolina Podgorska reached her second semi-final of the weekend before Hedman stayed her chances of a win on home soil, with Hlavova progressing through to the semi-finals with a win over Lorena Hofert of Germany.

Testament to his refusal to let a horrific injury dictate his life.

Phenomenal achievement and a well deserved one, which without a doubt sets an example to us all. :DDDD:

A few more points for Leighton Bennett as well. Looks like he's trying to accumulate ranking points to get those invitations. But 25.43 suggests that people are getting a bit too excited about his at the moment.

He is playing well. But isn't hitting 90 averages all the time. Rode his luck a little at the Welsh Open vs Ryan Hogarth & vs Aled Goode
