Nothing surprises me any more. And that's on both counts.
The World Masters at Selsey? It would be signalling the end of the BDO , might as well just let the EDO and other orgs run it all and just have the BDO run the BICC. In other words sack off BDO enterprises, give their money to BICC to try and grow grassroots darts.

TOURNAMENT VENUES
One of our most embarrassing issues is the sort of venue we choose, I’m looking at more upmarket and well-appointed venues with glitz and glamour in easily accessible areas of the Country, after all we are the BRITISH DARTS ORGANISATION and should try and lead by example, I have already negotiated several great venues to replace existing ones along with new competitions with high incentive sponsorship.

Now then, which major motorway and/or international airport is the glitzy location of Bunn Leisure in Selsey near?

Surely a holiday park the last weekend of the school holidays will already be fully booked with families.

Give all the families there free tickets and you have a filled up venue for TV.
All the players could stay off site and drive in each day for competition.

Come on, most families would be seething if they suddently found out their nice final weekend of the school holidays away was now overrun with drunken darts players and their drunken hangers on.

Why on earth would they want a darts tournament on during the school holidays?
Even if I was scrabbling desperately for a venue I wouldn’t have even bothered to ask them.

Probably because everyone else they could think of asking said no.
I presume they were relying on the Preston Guildhall before they went bust and the new owners said no or wanted a lot more money. Obviously last year’s terms were economic, possibly why if everyone using the place got cheap deals they went bust.

But asking a holiday park to sod all the families they will already have booked in that weekend in order to hold a darts event?

Pute desperation. Masters fair enough as thats out of season. There is a reason Butlins hold all the darts events for the PDC between November and March, you know.

1. Is Des/BDO desperate for a venue for the World Trophy? Yes
2. Is Bunn Holiday Park likely to be inundated with BDO darts fans? No, given previous editions of this event
3. Is this the last weekend of the school holidays? Yes, so likely to be a bit quieter than the rest of the 6 weeks
4. Should he be trying to get this sorted first before worrying about the Masters? Yes, if he feels it essential that this even goes ahead, and I'm pretty sure he does!
5. Are the BDO desperate for a venue? Yes!!

Of course, he may already have sorted a venue for the World Trophy, but if not, why not at least ask the question?

Oh and as an aside, if my sister (for want of an example) had booked good money for a weekend away on the coast with her three kids in August, and was told 10 weeks beforehand that the venue (I assume the big room at Selsey where they play the streamed EDO events is the main entertainment room?) was now being rented out to a bunch of darts players to play a darts tournament for a full three days, she would be spitting feathers.

Not everyone likes darts, you know. To even think its an option for the WDT is sheer lunacy.
