Decent venue for the BDO World Championship, but in line with much of the comments on here, my opinion is let's wait until we are notified of the Prize money levels, and who is paying for it.

At least all three BDO Majors have been sited and with the first two being confirmed for the next three years, let's give Des and the BDO the benefit of the doubt, pending more information.

Well done Des and Sportotal...
...
For picking up the phone and booking a venue...

Now find a sponsor and some ticket paying punters or you have just bankrupt the BDO.
The BDO do not have the cash to fund this event. God knows what this will do to the BDO.

Why so negative? He has a top venue. That will make it easy to get a sponsor assuming he hasnt already got them onboard. Maybe the venue will have agreed to sponsor it just to get the World Championships there.

Oh please. No, the venue wont sponsor it and if it was easy.. where is the sponsor announcement..
No, the fact is that all they have done is booked a venue....
And gambled big time on the money built up by years of County level daters by supporting the circuit to qualify for lakeside.

Wayne wont know that, hes just being an o2 fanboy as they host his events
Based on some comments on Facebook a month or 2 ago I think Wayne worked with des/sportotal to get this deal, hence the need to push it

Think des is doing a fine job. Safeguarding some tv tournaments and getting a huge venue for the wc. Away from the stoneage old dusty lakeside. I really think this could be a new beginning for the bdo.

Yep. The death knell.

PDC will have an event announced at Lakeside within a year.

EDIT: I’m not masturbating unlike Skewball.

I dont get people congratulating him on booking a venue ! Wait until we see the event first- and its cost to the BDO!
Personally I think it's a mistake to move from Lakeside this year, they needed a bit of stability and now they will look like a poor mans PDC.

Have the dates been confirmed?

Could it end up clashing with the pdc q-school?

Given most of the crowd at Lakeside looked like they didn’t have two pennies to rub together it is unlikely they’ll want to pay London prices. The BDO will need to attract a new wave of supporters which will be tough.

This will speed it up no end.

Whatever your views on Lakeside it had all the post-Jollees history and consequently brand loyalty and tradition along with Big Bob stumping up the prize money.

I can only see this as being a disaster being played in a huge, empty room.

Even those who claim they are "fanatics" will not show up, just like at the WDT.

And those people only went because of the venue, imo.

Anyway i see that the venue that is meant to be hosting the AGM tomorrow has effectively been burnt to the ground.

No questions for Des then about who is paying for all this, bet he is gutted.

Been relocated to the Village Hotel.

Omens come in many forms but that one was pretty subtle.

Remains to be seen. With no Winmau behind them and now no Lakeside it really is sink or swim . Will be an interesting watch how it unfolds whichever outcome
