RIP Lakeside
THE BDO WORLD PROFESSIONAL DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS
After four decades of this prestigious competition residing at The Lakeside, we are excited to announce that the new home of the BDO World Professional Darts Championships is Indigo at the O2, London!
We have such fond memories and are extremely grateful to The Lakeside, especially Bob & Barbara Potter and all that have helped over the years to make the most famous darts tournament in the world, such a success.
Moving to The O2, the most popular venue in the world, is an amazing opportunity and we look forward to working with the O2 and their partners over the coming years to develop a new future for the BDO World Professional Darts Championships.
Further announcements to follow soon regarding on-sale dates and tournament/venue information.
See you in London January 2020!

RIP BDO.
Des Jacklin: ‘People say the BDO can’t compete with the PDC, but that is the biggest load of crap in the world’
God rest Alf Garnett and Prince Phil.
I used to love cycling but unfortunately I know a man who doesn’t like cyclists.

Coming thick and fast.
Re: RIP Lakeside
The end of history. Won't be the same.
Re: RIP Lakeside
Right as usual.
Re: RIP Lakeside
10/10 for effort. 2/10 for execution.
The BDO had a built-in fanbase at Lakeside and one that behaved themselves. Now it will be PDC lite. Why try and play the PDC at their own game?

Re: RIP Lakeside
I presume it doesn't state whether its a 1 year or longer contract, I think around 60-70% of Lakeside loyals wont bother. They will be having to rely on 10k fanatics to attend.
I believe whole heartedly this will be a disaster and either the death of BDO on TV, the final nail for Des or both.
I just cannot see it being successful, casuals will have been to Ally Pally over Xmas and New Year, I dont believe the BDO have enough genuine ticket buying supporters to achieve anything of note anymore.
They have hit the brick wall.

Just need to find a sponsor now to stump up the £350,000 what Potter used to shell out! Des Jackal will bust the BDO faster than Irene Mungins filled her handbag!

Re: RIP Lakeside
Never mind the venue, who's paying the prize money?
So close to where I live, will definitely go. But it will be weird!

Re: RIP Lakeside
Hardly a surprise this has happened. Des hated the old place and Bob can now finally let the developers in.

Hopefully reduces it to around 300 to save face.Ginge wrote:Indigo wont hold that many with table seating, i would have thought.

Re: RIP Lakeside
From looking at the place i imagine the bottom level will be tables and the top level be tiered seating, wont be everyone at a comfy table. The Crusader wrote:Hopefully reduces it to around 300 to save face.Ginge wrote:Indigo wont hold that many with table seating, i would have thought.
Be interesting to see where they pitch the ticket prices, would confirm or not if Potter was taking the piss of late.
