The fifth referee to be announced in the new line-up, making their official BDO debut at the World Trophy later this month, is Harry Smith.

Harry recently formed part of the calling team at the Youth Festival of Darts and his experience is drawn from the increasingly popular university darts scene.

A player since the age of 13, Harry then went on to play for York University for five years, captaining the team for three of them and was instrumental in the organising of the largest inter-university varsity in Europe; the Roses. During this time, Harry honed his refereeing skills, and has most recently called within the BICC sector for Cambridgeshire.

Harry expressed his excitement at this new opportunity, stating “Words cannot explain how thankful I feel to be given this opportunity. Just to think only a few years ago I was calling for and captaining York University darts team and now I will be calling on the biggest darting stages in the world!

A mixture of excitement and nerves now leads me to what will certainly be a memorable first TV tournament for me!

Thank you again Des and the BDO team for this amazing opportunity, I feel extremely fortunate to be given this once in a lifetime chance”.

BDO Chairman/CEO Des Jacklin, upon revealing the fifth appointment, said ‘I am delighted Harry is joining the BDO. Again, it was a tough decision as there was so much interest, but I am confident that Harry will take his experience, coupled with his exceptional mathematical ability and will be a welcome addition the new-look refereeing team.

Tomorrow, we will reveal the sixth and final addition to the new line-up, which I think will send shockwaves around much of the darting community!'
