It's a fair point about the prize money on the rankings.... If Durrant does not meet the PDC qualification as it stands and gets in as a BDO pick or a last minute wildcard then any prize money should not go on the rankings...if it did it would be grossly unfair on other players in those rankings.
The BDO should not pick Durrant as he is no longer a BDO player. The PDC should not shoe-horn him on the basis that he is the Lakeside World Champion as it is a PDC ranking event, and he will be a PDC player potentially gaining ranking points, and just as importantly denying other PDC players of ranking points.
There are many reasons why this shouldn't be a ranking event, this is one of them!
Agree with most here once Glen joined the PDC he gave up representing the BDO, He's had enough time to qualify this year, not knocking him as he's done better than I thought he would
I don't think he should be picked by the BDO as he no longer represents them - however, I think that the PDC should make the BDO World Champion, World Masters and BDO World Trophy winners as mandatory representatives. If the winner of any of these events now have tourcards, and they don't qualify via a PDC route, then they are not entitled to add their winnings to their ranking.
Who would the BDO rather have representing them in the grand slam? Kleermaker, a fella who probably finishes bottom of his group and has the marketability of Gary glitter or its the reigning BDO world champion who is in good form and should qualify for the 2nd round.
Why is this even being discussed? Surely in the BDO era of transparency that we're currently enjoying this year's selection criteria have been published months ago and it's just a matter of looking them up on the BDO site?
Or even ask Dessy himself, he's present at every event to answer people's questions you know.

All pretty irrelevant though.. Nobody the BDO would put in would be as good as Durrant but they have to choose players still in their system and players that won't actually earn money on the OOM... the fact that they stop PDC players earning money is a different matter..
The problem is entirely the PDC's fault.. The fact of having the Grand Slam without the BDO World Champ is ridiculous anyway.. The fact is even if Durrant qualifies the BDO World Champ has spent 10 months in PDC events anyway means that the whole original selling point of this event is diluted anyway.
Is there anything in selection criteria that says " the reigning BDO champion so long as he remains a BDO player" if it just says the current champion then he should play

There is no mention of who should be picked from the BDO. 8 BDO representatives is all that is specified.

Re Bennett. Maybe after he withdrew firm he wdf world cup the pdc or bdo realised it was too early for him to handle the pressure?
Or that they don't want to burst the hype bubble yet.
or that the PC brigade wouldn't have liked a child being at a late night sports event for adults with a crowd encouraged to get pissed up and abuse everybody - even though the child might be an asbo-numpty with bottom level behaviour traits anyway - kids a kid - like they folded with the walk-on girls
