They should have drastically reduced the prize fund for both WDT and Masters.

Max £10k to the Men”s winner and then scale from there.

I guess they didn’t as didn’t want player revolt and more trying Q-School next January. But then only a limited number can get your cards and they’re up against Challenge Tour and other players.

It was only ever put to 100k to match the PDC at the time.. It was a ridiculous decision back then which looks even more ridiculous now.. Its an enormous burden for any sport with the following the BDO has.. Totally excessive and even more so without the backing of Potter.

The prize money was fine when it was covered by sponsors. No problem with it being at any level if its paid for. But now...

I hope the rumoured ticket dependent sales = prize money for the BDO Worlds isn’t true.
Apparently all prize money had to be in place at time of contracts.

I wouldn't have thought there were any sports at all with the live fan base numbers of the BDO and very few meaningful sponsors that would offer anything near 100k for a prize, let alone the rest of the payout... Its a ridiculous amount to sustain and without sponsorship of note truly impossible..

Makes no difference if they advertise it at 5k, 100k , 500k or 5 million if the cheques the winner gets given cannot be honored

And yet these same people criticise the PDC for only looking after the select few but it’s ok for the BDO to blow all their money on a select few and stuff everyone else, sounds about right.
