Is Gary Anderson finished as a major winner

Post by Demolition_fan »

The end is near I feel
A 70 odd average the other week and miserably failing the GSOD
Will he trouble the engravers any more?

Yes, in fact an early exit at the Worlds and I can see him getting the hump and packing it in at the end of the year. Even if he goes on a fairly long run though, I can't see him sticking around any longer than next year's Worlds, and definitely not at the very top. This stat (a tiny bit out of date but still valid) is particularly damning:

It’s a grip issue that’s his problem, darts not coming out smoothly. Until he fixes that’s hes not winning many games never mind majors. Will drop fast down the rankings the same way Thornton did.

Yes. It seems that he's like a golfer having to rebuild his swing, and it doesn't usually work out.
It's less likely to happen in his case because it takes a lot of work.

il credit gando at least he won things so what if hes finished as a major winner / contender, hes done it & very few have, he deserves to swan off with his head held high a great natural talent for darts,

He'll probably take up Barney's mantle going forward.

The odd game where his true potential comes out and he wins convincingly. But never enough consistency to make it through a full tournament and loads of darts swapping, whinging, head shaking and skipping tournaments in between.

That stat from ochepedia says a lot about just how much his level has fallen

Don't expect too much from Gary at this year's WC.

Think he will be glad to get 2019 out of the way, and will give it a real go next year.

Ando still has the ability, it will just come down to whether he has the hunger and desire to match.

Personally hoping we will see him react to this year, like he did the loss to MVG in the last 16 of the 2014 WC.

He had slips in the BDO.. When he lost 3-0 to Barney in the 1st round at Lakeside in about 12 minutes.. Throwing his darts in the lake... Then after a while and was the undisputed number one there with the WDT and IDL wins..

I think its purely down to Anderson and how much he really wants it... I can't see his motivation been the same as it was so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't win another major.

That happened to a friend of mine who lost a lot of weight in his 40s and also his hair although don’t think they were linked. Went from looking like he could have been in his 30s to am “old man” of 60 overnight. Losing weight can make you look younger but for many it shows up your true age or makes you look a lot older.
