Youth problem

Post by Wazza180 »

Is it me or is the lack of promising youth players in the PDC a bit concerning?

Players who were tipped for topness but haven't delivered?

James Hubbard - Qualified for several major comps around 2011-2013. Now without a tour card.
Keegan Brown - Barely top 32,
RJR - Has been tailing off for years in terms of results.
Max Hopp - Qualifies for all the TV events but looks pretty ordinary most of the time.
Dimitri Van den Bergh - Very average off TV.
Luke Humphries - Only turns up at the World Championship.

Smith, Dobey and Aspinall will all turn 30 soon so they don't count.

Would you be concerned at this if you ran the Development tour?

God rest Alf Garnett and Prince Phil.

I used to love cycling but unfortunately I know a man who doesn’t like cyclists. :roadrage:

Let's look at it this way.

Klaasen won the world title at 21. With a field that included the likes of Barney, G Anderson, King, Adams, Whitlock, Hankey, O'shea etc. . .
MVG the masters at 17
Bunting was winning titles in his teens and 20s and made it into the PDC top 16.

Plenty of examples of young players winning big titles at a young age.

Players do get better as they get more experience of course, but there doesn't look to be anyone to get excited about at all at the moment.

I'm not interested in personal attacks just because you disagree with my opinion on darts.

Crikey! :IIII:

I haven't really looked at the ages of all the players but I don't think it's that concerning. If Leighton Bennett is anywhere near as good as he thinks he is, then he'll end up in the PDC in a few years. Even you must see that the PDC is the only realistic option for a top player nowadays.

MvG is the only guy to win a major as a teenager, isn't he? It's extremely rare.

It's most certainly a concern when the shelf life of a top quality darts player is 5-6 years tops.

I know. List the ones who failed and ignore the ones who've succeeded because they're "too old"

Another piece of selection bias rambling that's been covered 1000 times before.

I thought it would be good to have the Rochdale Dwarf back, but I was wrong. It's just the same old shite again and again.

I can only surmise that during his time away he was in a padded room gently banging his head on the wall and endlessly repeating "The PDC are c*nts, the PDC are c*nts."

It just doesnt wash anymore, it's like he has literally woken up after being 10 years in a coma. It's quite comical.

That's the point, they look promising but never achieve their expected potential. The ones that spend years on the BDO tour before switching always do better. They switch far to early, win a big adult title or fair well in the BDO then think about switching. So many young pretenders seem to fizzle out under the PDC regime.
