Idea to improve Q School
Re: Idea to improve Q School
There is clearly something wrong with Q School if it ends without a former World Champion in Mitchel winning a card. He averaged 93 over the 4 days and had very few poor matches. That is the sort of player who should be playing in the PDC. He's the very best in the 1.5 division that is the BDO.
Instead players get cards after a lucky run or lucky draw. For lord's sake, Glenn Durrant, one of the very best in the world almost didn't get a card last year.
Reward excellence over a year in the secondary division. Not just a lucky run in a floor event. That's all I am saying.

Re: Idea to improve Q School
I don’t disagree with this. Mitchell didn’t get to the top of the BDO rankings though, and the one who did didn’t even get into the top 32 of the European rankings.
It is absolutely brutal, but you’d think over 4 days you’d be one of the top 21 players in the competition.

Re: Idea to improve Q School
Challenge tour top 18 then 10/12 winners across the 4 days no points
Re: Idea to improve Q School
I like it.
Reward consistent play on CT.
Still gives switchers a chance and with fewer cards in the Q School lottery you might get fewer chancers.
Although you will always get the Keith Carter's of this world.

Re: Idea to improve Q School
Another thing I'd like to see is the best couple of players of the year who aren't due to get a tour card being offered one, like in snooker. Often we see players who struggle on their first year on tour, but get to grips with the tour in year two, or players that lose their tour cards, get on tour via the Challenge Tour and do very well, but not quite well enough to finish in the top 2 or get into the top 64 on the OoMMensur Suljovic Fan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:59 pm My ideas:
2 tour cards to the WDF World Championship finalists (I'm assuming there'll be some entente between the PDC and the WDF, this would be a good way to formalise it)
4 tour cards to the DT and CT each, if you can prove yourself at a high level over 20 events, you have a good chance on the tour
Introduce an Asian, North American and Australasian Q-School, with one spot each. The guys that top those Orders of Merit are bound to be good players, but may not have any interest in relocating halfway around the world, this method opens it up a bit more to some slightly lesser players perhaps (tbf, Kai Fan Leung hasn't exactly been one of the leading lights on the Asian Tour, and he won a card in the UK Q-School), but should mean that only those who want to commit to moving to the UK enter
Re: Idea to improve Q School
I think most people would be happy to see more cards offered for the Challenge Tour, even top 5 get a card. Likewise with the Development Tour, increase it to 3 or 4 cards. The remaining cards can be won through Q-School as usual.
Eventually I would like to see a card offered to the top ranked player on the Asian Tour etc., provided they commit to playing the tour.
No cards should automatically go to BDO players.

It’s the only way no top 40 of CT got a card absolutely mentalDavidOwen67 wrote:I like it.

Re: Idea to improve Q School
Scott Mitchell averages in losses:
89.5 v 87.8 (Wilson)
93.6 v 86.1 (Neads)
90.3 v 90.1 (Tony Richardson)
100.5 v 99.3 (Waites)
Was Mitchell a victim of the Q School system, or did he just play too many bad games?
Jim Williams average in losses:
91.4 v 94.6 (Edhouse)
84.4 v 86.7 (Parletti)
91.6 v 92.1 (Cole)
102.2 v 104.6 (Kenny)

91.2 vs 96.8 (Mawson)

Possibly the most unlucky player this year.
Re: Idea to improve Q School
It's simple really and any arguments are all moot
If you cannot win a card in 4 attempts or do well enough winning enough games to get one on the table then you are not good enough for the PDC
Anyone who has a 'lucky' run has demonstrated that at times they have an A Game that could win them games on the main tour and if they could find it consistently they may be successful There is no 'luck' in winning 7 or 8 games on the bounce to win a card outright
With the BDO 'superstars' it gives them a dose of reality of how small a pond they have been in in relation to their ability and that their preparation for causal holiday camp opens will not cut it in a professional environment of hungry eager darters

God rest Alf Garnett and Prince Phil.
I used to love cycling but unfortunately I know a man who doesn’t like cyclists.

128 Player Pro Tour
128 Player Challenge Tour
Remainder on a Development tour
Under 21s on an actual Youth Tour
Where you finish at Q school determines which one you play on.
Means that each match potentially has more riding on it

Re: Idea to improve Q School
For me
Extend Pro tour to 192 spots. Top 64 get a bye to R2, 128 Play in Round 1. Adds 64 Games to the day, Using 32 boards thats 2 extra game per board adding about half an hour to the day, hour max, Tournaments still free entry but non top 64 need to win a game 2 games to get money, Top 64 need to win their match to get money.
Would mean more players keeping their card as the cut off for 128 is currently £8 meaning your not getting the same players doing qschool, not doing enough, going back to qschool after 2 years getting another card rinse and repeat.
Next season - All 128 keep their card for an extra year, top 24 from Challenge tour, top 8 from development tour, 32 Places at Qschool - One Qschool top 8 get a card each day
From them on - Top 128 Keeps their card each year, up from top 64. Top 16 from Challenge tour, Top 8 from Development tours, 8 Places for Champions of other affiliated tournaments (Ladies Champion, WDF Finalists), 32 from Qschool going back to one tournament but top 8 each day get a card.

They already have. The lower ranked tour card holders who battled through q school and travelled the leisure centres had to sit at home during PDC worlds while Fallon Sherrock was given a wildcard by uncle Barry merely for being young blonde with a set of titsDavidOwen67 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 6:20 pmAs if tHe PDC would help out BDO players ahead of their own.Murphio wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 5:52 pmThis 'improves Q School' how exactly?
