Averaged a ton in 5 of 7 matches today.
Hit a 9 darter.
Beaten by a whisker in a superb final by great darts.
You may be getting some "Any luck?" posts.

Not a fan of MvG but he is far from finished. Delighted with the final result however.

TBF he is somebody who works on his game loads. Recognised problems with his throw so has completely changed it over time and continues to work on errors in his game.

His throw looks no different to that of a few years ago TBF.

Yes, completely finished.
Only got out in 15 in half the legs.
Had to scrape together an 11 darter against the throw to take it to the last leg.
But when it really mattered he couldn't go out in 12 darts like he would have done when he was good. 36 after 12 darts shows how much he's faded.

Ian White averaging higher over his 5 matches today, than Snakebite did over his 7 yesterday.

This standard is unbelievable, and after the record 47 ton plus averages yesterday, there were another 44 today. Simply staggering. :omg:

Overall 93.4 today after a record 93.5 yesterday. Great weekend of darts and plenty of players building confidence ahead of the uk open.

Players are playing well. I remember years and years ago that there were 100 averages all round the floor.

This must me a mistake, John.
Wazza who has "friends in darts" told us just recently how the standard was falling.

The fact the the highest overall average for a ProTour match has been broken twice recently is just an outlier and not a true reflection of the continually falling standard.

Which is the real reason that MvG is not dominating as once he did.

The fact is that several players have improved their A game to the point where they can turn him over.

It's producing these consistently high tournament averages on the Tour and means that he can't get away with a poor game in the latter stages.

Can only be good for darts. We certainly don't get the "same 8 players" in the quarters.
Not that we ever did.

The standard on the ProTour is undeniably as high as it's ever been, and that is why MvG hasn't won one this season. Yet. Just look at that last leg today. Sat on 36 after 12 darts and his opponent takes out 94 on an obscured bull.
The ProTour is tough as hell at the moment. Ask Ian White.

This year so far undoubtedly is the strongest it has ever been. It is almost impossible to improve further.

Which is why it was hilarious that Wazza claimed just the opposite.

Then flounced complaining that people were trolling.

Of course he may have been Robson's cleverest incarnation yet. He does learn every time he comes back. But I don't think he's that clever.

Miles different much further backswing don’t no what you’ve been watching/remembering. Used to have basically zero backswing.

Depends how far you’re going back?

His throw now with a minimal backswing is no different than 2018.

The mental aspect of the game is huge. Many of these guys can throw high averages but more are doing it when it counts.

With mvg, players now know if they play well they can beat him. He's slipped back a bit but even that is enough to give others belief and that confidence can make all the difference. He used to have players half beaten before the first dart and they tried too hard on doubles. No longer the case.

Fully expect him to pick up a string of wins though and a major or two. He has too much quality and plenty of drive still. Mentally he's way more dialled in than barney was for the last few years, just that others have improved their standard.

Good time for us fans for sure.
