Just been announced that DAZN is launching in May starting with boxing but other sports will be joining.
According to some boxing forums I’ve been on match rooms contract with sky ends at the end of the year and the intention is for Eddie to walk away and put everything on DAZN
Could have implications for darts in the future as DAZN covers a lot of the pdc international deals. The itv deal ends in November and could very likely see the pro tour and euro tour end up on there instead of pdc tv

Oh great, another subscription.
People said all these different companies coming into the sports market would drive prices down, has it fek.

Think Eddie has said in the past that he didn’t want DAZN to be any more than £20 a month for regular subscribers and £40 for offs. I’d happily pay £20 if we end up with all the boxing ppvs on there.Ginge wrote:Oh great, another subscription.

They have a hell of a lot of contracts as well that could easily move over to the uk. Tons of football, nfl (sky’s nfl deal just ended), mlb, ufc (BT’s deal is a rolling one), rugby, tennis
Re: DAZN launching in the UK in may
The business model of DAZN in the US is no PPVs only a monthly subscription. So Ruiz vs Joshua wasn’t a PPV there. It has all Matchroom’s boxing, which is why Eddie Hearm starting promoting events in the US to give more content to DAZN. Makes perfect sense he moves to DAZN when his Sky contract ends, as will get a bigger share of the pie.
Good call on NFL in UK. Sky are looking to pay less and BT seemingly uninterested, so a bid anywhere near the old Sky price will probably get them UK rights.
With darts Barry Hearn has said he wants a mix of pay and free TV to promote the sport. Remember he created that event for the BBC Champions League so they would ditch a Lakeside. Agree we may see DAZN start with PC and ET, but also may get some of the minor ones ITV has. In particular the PDC would probably want them to have WSOD as they would stream live whereas ITV4 have the Australian events on delay. Even Setanta in Ireland show live it’s just ITV don’t want people recoding live and watching when home from work and they skip the adverts. Would also think DAZN would go after Sky’s rights but think they are on a long term deal.

Why would they switch it to a subscription channel from the current set-up?Zapp Brannigan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 6:45 pm Just been announced that DAZN is launching in May starting with boxing but other sports will be joining.

Re: DAZN launching in the UK in may
The problem these days is that smaller events are being squeezed, hence a stall of numbers watching the 4-7 day events, but a big rise in profile for the Worlds.

Re: DAZN launching in the UK in may
Probably nobody, they only really use the same 4 all the time anyway (Pyke, Rawling, AWL, Mason), a 5th isnt going to hurt.only85 wrote:re the itv contract jacqui is ok now with her feet under the sky sunday table & anyone know whose missing from itv for webster to be allowed to pontificate to us this weekend
