The BDO Annual General Meeting
The AGM for the BDO took place last weekend in Coventry, below is a summery of events taken from the BDO website.
POSITIVES FROM BDO AGM
The full board of the BDO was re-elected at the annual BDO AGM held in Coventry: Chairman, Dave Alderman; Tournament Director, Olly Croft, OBE; Financial Director, Rod Harvey and Directors Mike Stephenson, Vic Sexton and Len Mutch.
Among the many positives to emerge was a raft of exciting plans and initiatives for the future.
• There are ongoing discussions between the BDO and Rileys concerning plans for some new national events, and the introduction of youth academies to their Darts Zones, which will have top BDO players as mentors.
• Oxfordshire has become the second BDO county to use a Rileys Darts Zone for its matches. For the 2010/2011 season they will be playing at Rileys Cowley.
• Norfolk are already based in Rileys Norwich.
• Netsport Training have been working closely with the BDO and its counties in a range of initiatives going forward. This includes the creation of a new website to be launched this season.
• There are plans for more self-financed prize money for Premier Division players.
• A-Team matches in the Premier Division for the 2010/2011 season will be increased from Best of 5 Legs to Best of 7 Legs.
• There has been a very encouraging 15% increase in player membership.
• The 2010 BDO Personality Awards are as follows:
• Female Official PAULINE STAFFORD (Cheshire)
• Male Official RON BENTLEY (Hertfordshire)
• Male Player JAMIE LEWIS (Pembrokshire)
• Female Player DETA HEDMAN (Oxfordshire)
Sadly, since the award was made Pauline Stafford has passed away following a long and brave battle against cancer. The BDO is therefore grateful that prior to her passing, Cheshire player Darryl Fitton was able to present her with an engraved silver pendant and photo-frame to commemorate her award as BDO Female Official of 2010.
All at the BDO send their heartfelt condolences to Pauline’s family. She was a wonderful person and a devoted and dedicated BDO official over many years. She will be sadly missed.

from the BDO websiteIt is always my sad duty to report on the passing of a dedicated BDO official and treasured colleague, but in the case of PAULINE STAFFORD it is particularly heart-breaking.
Unfortunately, I know all about the pains of coping with cancer through my beloved Lorna, and I know from Pauline’s family, friends and devoted Cheshire county players like Darryl Fitton and Tony O’Shea (who have visited her regularly) that she fought a long and brave fight against her illness.
All who knew Pauline, and I was fortunate to have done so for a great number of years, will remember her smiling face at BDO events. She was always vocal in her support of all things BDO – and of course ‘her boys’ the Cheshire county players who she looked after right up until the end.
We will miss you very much Pauline.
Goodnight and God Bless from myself and all your friends at the BDO. Our heartfelt condolences go out to your family and friends.
OLLY CROFT, OBE

I would like to think I would do a better job that Robert Holmes. They could do not worse than employ someone like Dave Allen - i.e. someone who knows what he is doing.Lurgan wrote:Addtional Posts from BDO AGM

It's just stupid to have two separate governing bodies for professional darts but nobody seems to see that. The dinosaurs are still in charge along with all the blazers and committeemen/women.
Until we merge the two, nothing will change.
I am beginning to think that the PDC needs to follow the golf model with different tiers of ability for different players but with the chance to move upwards based on results and/or earnings.
So we are going to have a tour card at the highest level but we need perhaps a Challenge Tour level and a Europro Tour level plus smaller competitions on a regional basis as well. That could help players lower down the ladder to earn some money and then devote more time to practice.
