CDC Tour 2020

Post by ssjsa »

The planned opening weekend of the 2020 Championship Darts Corporation season in North America has been postponed.

The CDC's 2020 events had been due to begin from March 20-22 in Ontario, Canada, with two CDC Tour events accompanied by World Series of Darts qualifiers and Junior Tour events.

However, due to the evolving situation worldwide due to the Coronavirus epidemic, the CDC have taken the decision to postpone the weekend.

A CDC statement said: "While our events do not fall under most of the current government-imposed bans on sporting events and gatherings in North America, we must be cognizant of not only the possible health risk but also other critical issues such as the potential interruption of international travel and localized quarantines that governments in the US and Canada may elect to enforce without prior notice."

At present, the CDC's second weekend of 2020 in Chicago from May 15-17 is schedule to proceed as planned, although any change would be notified in due course through www.champdarts.com and www.pdc.tv.

Kiley Edmunds has won the CDC Championship League's opening season, with a second event now set to be held after the cancellation of the planned CDC Tour weekend in Denver.

The global restrictions has already meant that weekends in Toronto and Chicago had been cancelled earlier this year, and the year's third planned weekend - in Denver from July 10-12, will also now not take place.

The CDC are now planning to run a second season of their home-broadcast Championship League, presented by Magic Darts, featuring separate seven-player leagues in the USA and Canada.

The initial Championship League has been won by Kiley Edmunds, who defeated Gary Mawson 9-8 in the final.

Edmunds saw off Jim Long in the final of the Canadian Division, with Mawson edging out Nick Linberg 9-8 in the USA Division final.

The event also featured the CDC's first nine-dart finish, achieved by Shawn Brenneman during his tie with Edmunds in the league stage last month.

The experienced Canadian landed two 180s and then finished 141 - whilst giving a running commentary of the achievement!

The Championship Darts Corporation is set to return to action later this month, with weekends planned in Canada and the USA for players to qualify for the William Hill World Darts Championship and BetVictor World Cup of Darts.

The CDC circuit has not been able to commence so far in 2020, although an online Championship League and "Cyber Series" virtual tour have been running to keep players in North America active.

However, the CDC is to stage two four-event weekends which will give CDC Tour Card Holders their chance to secure places in the World Cup and World Championship.

Canadian players will be competing on September 26-27 in Woodstock, Ontario - with one place in the World Cup team alongside PDC Tour Card Holder Jeff Smith on offer alongside one spot in the World Championship.

American players will then play off on October 3-4, with two places in the World Cup team available alongside one World Championship place.

In addition, with the North American Championship not having been held in 2020, the World Championship place usually reserved for that event has been awarded to 2019 CDC Continental Cup winner Danny Lauby (pictured above) due to the exceptional circumstances this year.

Each weekend will be open to CDC Tour Card Holders from that country only (with no qualifying events for non-Tour Card Holders), and will feature four events (two per day).

World Cup qualification will see points earned in the four events added to the players' 2019 total on the CDC Order of Merit.

For World Championship places, the selection will be based on performances across those four events alone, with the leading player in Canada and the USA progressing to compete at Alexandra Palace.

Championship Darts Corporation
Canadian weekend - September 26-27, Woodstock, Ontario
USA weekend - October 3-4, Indianapolis, Indiana

The events will be staged by the CDC under strict regulations, which will include a temperature & welfare check on arrival for all players, social distancing and limits on the number of people permitted in a venue.

2016 if I remember right. Either way he lost to McGeeney.

Think so, the one that was Lakeside.

Campbell has also likely sealed his spot alongside Smith at the WCOD.

Would be good to see Dave Cameron make this, not least because some bemoaned that he qualified through a similar route for Lakeside every year because he was the only player in that region to get to events, or something like that !

Danny is without doubt the best player in America at the moment. His A game, with the possible exception of Danny Lauby is miles ahead of any other player in the US, and has the game to be competitive on the PDC Tour.

Whitewashes Mawson to win event 4 and make it the 3 from 4 wins I predicted. He is a dangerous draw at the worlds for some of the lower seeds.

Lauby will also be fun to watch at the worlds as his throw isn’t much slower than Rapid Rickys.
Baggish's scoring Tour Performance was way ahead of everybody else. (~PC where it would put him in Players Championships).
Average was 92.38, Lauby 87.50. And that 92.38 was an average losing only one game. Almost a dart ahead. (~PC 50th)
First 9 101.3, Puleo 96.5. (~PC 38th)
100+% 50, Sayre 41 (~PC 4th)
140+% 16 (2nd) Sayre 16 (~PC 77th)
Weaker on 180s
180% 1.8 (10th) Sayre 3.9. However, he looked a bit better if you take 160+%, as he had more 160+ then others. (~PC 146th, level with Aaron Beeney).

So, he's something of a ton machine, but would need to pick up his scoring to do anything really good in the PDC.
One to hope to see go to Q School, to see what his potential is.
