The first of the World Championship thrillers IMO, and I remember it like yesterday.

I so wanted Mike to win.

wanted taylor to win back then and judging how gregory stabbed them "friends" of his in the back I am glad he never won that trophy ever

partof me sympathises with him, but he should have had the decency and informed the others.

I disagree JC. I wasn't party to these events all these years ago so really could not comment on individual's behaviour throughout them. I know as much as the rest of you, and believe Mike was doing what he thought was best for his family, a good reason. He could have conducted himself better with his co players of course. A decision which he freely admits was now wrong.

At the end of the day for a period Mike was the best player in the world. I would have loved to see him win the Worlds just once.

I agree a players family is first and foremost the most important thing and as I said I sympathise with him to the extent of his reasons.
However his way of just leaving and saying nothing was like stabbing your friends in the back.I think gregory may have regretted not ever staying in the pdc as when he returned "home" to "the Family"...a family that made the manson family seem like the partridge family he was treated just as bad.
He ended up getting grief on both sides.

As for the best player in the world at the time..hardly...phil was...his title proved that.
There were many players of a fine standard that "should" have won titles that did not just like some players who did and were having a single good year with a heap of luck, beaton and david for starters

Are you forgetting the fleet of Ladas Mike won?

He got unlucky and missed darts for the title in the WC but he was the better player for a couple of years IMO.

Taylor has obviously raised the bar since then.
