Vegas tips

Post by Skewball » Fri Nov 01, 2019 12:03 pm

Right, I am off there tomorrow for the first time. Give me some big tips..!! There are a few regulars on this forum :) I'm just after some general dos and don't bothers. Or how to handle tipping etc
Already planned a day out to GC/Hoover Damn. Got two women in tow. Not a massive gambler but more than happy to sit at a slot machine for a while and get free drinks (if it is that easy).

I don't know if it works now but I was able to get served drinks by putting 10 dollars in a video poker machine at the bar and playing it very slowly at minimum stake. Got served every time by giving the people a dollar tip for each drink.

Ok then...(all based on my trip there mid-September)

If you want relatively cheap beer then all Caesars properties were selling huge cans of Miller for $2.65 in their shops, cheapest by miles and even cheaper then you will find in Walgreens and CVS on the Strip, i was drinking those all the time.

The sitting there all day getting free beer is a bit of a myth as a) you could lose, and b) you still have to tip or you wont see the serving woman again.

Go down to the end of the Linq Promanade if you are there on a Tuesday and go in Yard House on the left hand side next to the big wheel, they have about 150 beers and ciders on tap from all over the world and Tuesday is Happy Hour night, very reasonable for Vegas and tbh the food was alright as well.

Get off the plane as quick as you can, the Mexicans hold the immigration line up and there are a fair few flights from there to McCarran. Dont get an airport cab, Uber is cheaper even with surge pricing. If you are going in the lounge on the way back visit the generic lounge at the D Gates rather than the E Gates where Virgin/BA fly from, lounge is much nicer, costs the same and you can head back to the E Gates on the train when done. Can also get a shower there as well.

If you want cheap but realistic blackjack (i.e. not a machine) Treasure Island do $1 minimum hands on "stadium blackjack" between Monday and Thursday, basically two rows of computer screens where everyone plays the same hand against a live dealer sat at the front. My local Grosvenor have started doing this as well, quicker than sitting at a full table and its real cards, not a random number generator doing them. You are lucky if you find $5 blackjack tables, only saw two (one in Harrars and one in Flamingo) and the latter changed to $10 ten minutes after we sat at it.

Avoid roulette, the 00 is a pisstake and some casinos had tables with a 000 on them this time around

Maybe it would be helpful if you mentioned where you are staying.

The buffet in there is decent enough, or at least it was in 2015 when I last used it.

You can drink them anywhere that isn’t a bar or restaurant. It’s all I drank last year for the price, especially when some bars are up to $12 a pint now.

The free drinks while gambling is a myth and honestly the dealer don’t care any more for it to be worthwhile

If you want a restaurant Cheesecake Factory in ceasars is one of the best, the portions are massive. If you want a buffet bacchanal or bellagio brunch is the best by a mile.

And always haggle on your room and ask if there are any suites available. I got a suite upgrade in planet hollywood for $100 and it was the biggest room I’ve ever stayed in. It’s about a grand if you book online before hand

That’s where we stayed, very nice compared to some of the shittier hotels like Nick and Paddy’s.
Grabbed beers out of the cv store in the complex to take into the casino, was an expensive first couple of days buying drinks at the bar :banghead:
Casino Royale did bottles of Michelob for a dollar when we went last time.
Go to the old part of Vegas in Fremont Street (a few miles up the road from the main strip, get the bus) and do the Slotzilla zip line down Fremont Street. The proper Superman one, not the pathetic one for scaredy cats.

I used the opportunity to go to a shooting range whilst there just as I had never fired a gun. There’s loads they will pick you up from your hotel and drop you back.

Ask for the resort vista room. It’s a room you can’t book online before any more but it’s massive
