The Open Golf Thread.

Post by Dicie »

Been placing a few bets today for the Open.
Really fancy Sergio to have a good run, but iv been backing Jason Duffner for the past 4 months for this event, just small money few quid each way here and there, and i added up the dockets and iv €84 e/w on him at present.

Hes a very honest player imo, and stated he loves this golf course in 2012 on twitter, thou hes never played a competitive round on it, i can see the winning score being around -9 or -10, around that mark.

Tiger won here the last time it was played, and is 25/1 on betfair, which is a massive price.

Anyone else got any bets for this one.

I follow "Golf Club W anker" on FB and he has this to say.

Justin Rose – 14/1 with Boylesports – He has won 3 times in recent weeks and is the ‘inform man’; Phil won last year after winning ‘The Scottish’, can lightning strike twice… eeerrr again.

Tiger Woods – 25/1 with BetVictor – Never count Tiger out, his favourite Major course is ‘St Andrews’ and this is not too dissimilar. Will Tiger finally make a ‘Major’ comeback?

Paul Casey – 66/1 with 888Sport – The injury stricken Brit is inching his way back into the upper echelons. He is a solid links player and definitely gets a lift from the home crowd as his ‘Ryder Cup heroics’ have shown us.

Charl Schwartzel – 80/1 with Paddy Power – The little South African is a ‘shot maker’ who grew up and thrived in ‘links style’ courses and conditions; his odds are long and it is worth going E/W on him.

Brendan Grace – 250/1 with 888sport – A strong ‘links player’ with the ability to control his ball flight; he could have a real advantage over the field if he can make enough putts.

I cant disagree with any of that.

I fancy Mickelson to do well again as well.

Rose is going for 3 in a row isn't he after winning in the US as well. Law of averages would say that doesn't happen but he's playing well enough.

Mickelson not really done enough this year for me.

Not seen the odds but perhaps there is some value in Furyk and Cink. Jiminez may be worth a punt similarly Bjorn.

Not easy.

Exactly like that.

BBC coverage is excellent though, Alliss aside. Got it on the PC at work and the course looks very playable at this moment in time.

Did you hear him bang on about Cromwell and hats earlier? That was about the same time as the Fowler thing I think.

Just makes you scratch your head.

Tiger holding up quite well considering so far

My golf betting rules are pick 3 reasonable value players and stick with them e/w in majors and larger comps until you get a return and 1 from the top end, then switch player out for someone else once a return is made.

Not the most precise method I admit, nor one that makes a great amount of money but nice when 1 or 2 come in and I usually have some form of interest going in to the final day. Jimenez was a nice recent return. My top player in the list, and for obvious reasons has been for some time is Westwood, he cant seem to find a win to get him off my betting slip!!

Open; Westwood, Poulter, Garcia & Els.

How many bets has Westwood fucked by missing putts inside 8 feet. The man is useless when it comes to clutch putts.

Oh yes I've seen plenty of five pound notes slip past the right edge or come up short!
