Boxing Thread

Post by ssjsa »

Just settling down to watch the boxing tonight. Can't really be bothered with the Ryan Burnett fight, but looking forward to Price vs Povetkin. Hugely unlikely result but have placed a modest bet on David to win at 6/1. Have always been a fan of Price and was surprised when he got knocked out twice by Thompson.

Have AJ to win in 4 rounds at 12/1.

Thankfully only a small bet on Price, but that could have went either way. Povetkin mandatory challenger for both Joshua and Parker, but no way he would trouble either based on that performance.

Ref spoilt it, never even got going as a fight. AJ's unbeaten record continues. Never was as wide as the judges cards though.

Hoping he gets Wilder the windmill next but doubt it, maybe Whyte again and Tyson Fury if he really does get back amongst it.
Thinking of one.

The Ring magazine is probably the most respected boxing publication in the world of boxing. They have their own World rankings for each weight division and independent of the 4 main governing bodies. Probably the most objective and accurate rankings in the sport.

Good boxing tonight, Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia is a proper A list fight and though Spence is favourite I think it is a lot closer than the 1/5 and 3/1 bookies are quoting, if it goes the distance nobody can rely on a judge these days and Spence is more likely to be the victim of a robbery than Garcia and it's on freeview channel 24 after midnight. There's some warm-up boxing on BT/Boxnation earlier and a cheap fun bet can be made with Lerena/Martin/Arreola & Garcia - pays about 15/2 and once (if) the first three come in there should be the cash-out option to get the stake back leaving a freebie on Garcia.

As posted in another thread, looking forward to seeing Daniel Dubois fight tonight.

Has looked really impressive thus far, and although stepping up in class tonight, fully expect him to win comfortably.

Heavyweight boxing scene in Britian pretty good at the moment and as well as Joshua, Fury and Whyte at the higher echelons of the World Rankings, both Dubous and Joyce looking like exceptional prospects.

Just a shame that it is still stuck in the idotic multi belt system and where who your manager is/tv network deals decide the fights instead of the best fighting the best. The Joshua/Fury/Wilder situation has become a joke.

Anyway hopefully a good fight tonight but Expect it to be an early knockout TBH.
Dubois 1/50 to win and 1/20 to win inside the distance , so not much to had in terms of betting on him winning the fight.

I thought they could be good but both have looked slow and basic recently, they won't be winning at world title level

if you don't mind tying up a stake for a couple of months I think alvarez, wilder, warrington and allen are nailed on and the fourfold pays 9/4

Have always been a fan of Price, and thought he would go on to be a real decent fighter.

His chin has let him down, but I think he will bear Dave Allen.

watched price quit against the russian claiming an arm injury and he was saved by the ref with a dq when kash ali bit him on the tit, he was gassed both times against those bums and they would have sparked him within a couple more rounds. he can knock anyone out but is now just a ko waiting to happen, allen has minimal skill but is durable and punches, price will gas early again and fall over by 6

Joyce is fighting tonight against a 42yo 6'8" punchbag who got dropped and stopped by Michael Hunter who is not that big or good, it is probably over within 4. On the same card as Saunders who is fighting a nobody muppet. On BT1.

Funnily, Nigel Benn's other son Harley, who is trying to cash in on his dad's name and had so far won all 6 of his fights against such poor opponents their combined records are 16 wins, 123 losses and 5 draws, has just been beaten on the undercard by his 7th opponent who had lost all 16 of his paid for fights so far. It is a very poor card of fights, only worth tuning in for the Joyce KO.

Will be watching the Wilder-Breazeale fight later mainly in hope of a shock though Breazeale looked quite poor in his last and should be stopped. Don't know how many darts players there are with the same name but there are 3 Gary Russells on the Wilder undercard..
