I knew Conrad's brother Jack
He beat Bristow 6:3 the year before with a 78.17 ave (Bristow averaged 72.69)
I think Bristow may have been number one seed that year (1978), but the loss to Daniels dropped him one place to 2nd seed for the '79 championships. (i could be totally wrong of course)
The seedings for 1978 were:
1) Bristow
2) Lowe
3) Rees
4) Smith
5) Evans
6) Lord
7) Virachkul
8) Brown

We will give each year some airtime on the main page, then merge them with the ones you have created in the nostalgia section and store them there. If that's ok Cat?

Was he a bit of a lad?

Depends on what you mean by 'bit of lad'. He was certainly fun to be around and didn't take himself too seriously. He was a fine player. And at the time, along with Gwynedd's Owen Thomas, one of the best from North Wales. I can't pretend that I knew him that well. And because he was a Clwyd lad I only really saw him at big tournaments etc. He would have been extremely young playing in that 78 WC though. Unless I've made a huge mistake and am mixing him up with someone else. But I don't think there are too many top players from Wales by the name of Tony Clarke. Come to think of it was it Ridler that lost to Leighton and not Clarke?
