1982 BDO World Darts Championship

Post by The Cat »

The previous year's runner-up John Lowe yet again reached the final after coming out top in a showdown against another previous runner-up Bobby George in the semi-final.
There would be no Eric Bristow to meet him this year however as the Craft Cockney had been shellshocked in the first round by Northern Ireland's Steve Brennan (who repeated the feat in the 1986 MFI World Matchplay and prompted Bristow's comment that "he kept losing to wallies."
Lowe would meet the mercurial Scotsman Jocky Wilson who reached his first final and held his nerve to become Scotland's first World Champion by 5 sets to 3.

Back then the Embassy was played at Jollees in Stoke, so no Lakeside appearances - isn't that the Gold Cup Pairs trophy in the pic in the article?

RIP Angus

Hi fellow darters I thought id dig up this video from you tube with Eric Bristow and John Lowe both hitting 3 x Bullseyes

back to back which is cool to view ..

Ive hit a number of 3 x bullseyes and have witnesses to such but all done in practice as well as practice alone

which is cool to do ..Here is Bristow and Lowe in a quick video doing such :)

Despite what both Lowe and Bristow say they are not back to back treble bullseyes - look at the green bit when Lowe is throwing and you can clearly see there are several more holes in there than when Bristow threw his treble

I see where you are meaning when i paused it after Bristow hit the 3rd dart in the bull and then afterwards with Lowes
see more holes in the green part , although it said both hit 6 consecutive bullseyes ?

On this video is John Lowe talking about the time he became the first to hit a 9 dart game live on tv

which made him £102,000 at the time as well as thousands of £s for getting the highest check out
and winning the tournament which i recall

Here John Lowe chats below about that very day he was first to hit a 9 dart game
and done such when it was tougher with the thicker rounded wires and staples on the boards
them days .

And John Lowe's 9 darter below v

Angus Ross I had the privilege to sit with him and his father in the Washington hotel in Nairn in 1986
he went onto win that darts tournament there that afternoon , and was a decent guy as was his father

I ask what have you ever achieved in the game Murphy <
