1983 BDO World Darts Championship

1983 saw a number of records tumble at the hands of Keith Deller who became the youngest ever World Champion, the first ever qualifier to win the title and the first player to beat the top 3 highest ranked players in the world to become champion.
Probably the one of the most famous shocks in darting history was provided in the final where Deller beat former champion Eric Bristow in a deciding set - that however was not the full story.
Bristow was left on a 121 finish and after hitting single 17 and treble 18 he decided not to go for the bull but hit 18 to leave his favourite double 16, assuming Deller would miss his 138 checkout and leave him 3 darts at it. The rest is history as Deller stepped up and hit treble 20, treble 18 and rammed home the double 12 to win his only World Championship.
