1993 BDO World Darts Championship

The clouds had been forming for the last few years over the heads of the BDO and its top players. Frustration at the lack of exposure on tv and the rewards associated with it caused a number of the top players to form the World Darts Council (WDC) with the aim of increasing both their tv exposure and their revenue from it. The WDC had already run a tv tournament, the Lada UK Classic (won by Mike Gregory) in the months leading up to the Worlds and had it broadcast on Anglia TV. More contoversy ensued when these 16 players wore their WDC emblem on their shirts and were forced to remove them by officials. That was the end of the unified Lakeside World Championship - the WDC players decided that this would be the last one they would play in and from now they would go it alone.
John Lowe yet again reached the final and made history this year by becoming the first man to win a World title in 3 different decades.
He achieved the feat by overcoming Alan Warriner in the final.
