Following the fallout of the acrimonious darts split 1994's event was a bit of a strange and surreal affair.
The following players who had formed the WDC were missing:
Phil Taylor, Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington, Alan Warriner, Peter Evison, Richie Gardner, Jocky Wilson, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, John Lowe, Bob Anderson, Cliff Lazarenko, Kevin Spiolek, Jamie Harvey, Mike Gregory and Chris Johns (although Gregory and Johns were to leave the WDC before the 1994 Lakeside they were too late to enter the tournament.) It was a list that included every World Champion to date who was still active on the circuit and bound to drastically alter the world of darts.
This of course opened the door for a number of new players to stake a claim to the Lakeside championship and eventually Canada's John Part claimed the crown defeating a severly hampered Bobby George in a disappointing final with an average which would have probably seen him get nowhere near winning the event in previous years.
