1999 saw some changes to the Skol sponsored event - most notably the scrapping of the group stage in favour of permanently having a straight knockout draw (YES!) and the expansion of the field up to 32 players.
Phil Taylor won his 7th World title and 5th in succession by beating Peter Manley 6 sets to 2 in the final and picked up the £30,000 first prize.
