This year's event was the last to be sponsored by Skol, who had been associated with the tournament for the previous 5 years and also in it's inaugural year.
Phil Taylor racked up his eighth title in succession and his 10th in total when he demolished Peter Manley 7 sets to nil in the final. In doing so he received the princley sum of £50,000. The final was also memorable for Manley's refusal to shake Taylor's hand after the match and created Manley's bad boy image that was to follow him around for many years before he would be able to shed it.
