The 2003 championship welcomed Ladrokes as sponsors and widened the playing field with 40 players competing instead of the previous 32.

Canada's John Part surged through the field to pick up his 2nd World title after his previous Lakeside victory and in doing so ended Phil taylor's run of 8 titles in a row.

Simon Whitlock was also a notable entry this coming years before his permanent move to the PDC.
