The local UKIP office in Blyth got in touch last year, in the run up to the election, as they were contesting a seat in Blyth Valley, with the view to holding a darts competition. Gary Reed and myself were asked for input as they really did not have a clue to what was involved. The resulting comp, with around 150 in attendance on the day and the positive feed back, resulted in them promising to sponsor it again the following year. They have kept their word and have also increased the prize money. If all goes well, plans are already in motion to hold it again in 2017 with a prize fund in excess of 2k. UKIP are very pro active in the community of Blyth Valley, so whatever your political allegiances, they must be congratulated for their venture into the darts world and long may it continue.

Fair play, I look forward to the Liverpool communist party open where the entry fee and prize fund is as follows:

Entry fee: £5 per player

Winner = £5
R/U = £5
Semis = £5 each
Quarters = £5 each
Last 16 = £5 each
Last 32 = £5 each
All other places = £5 each

Nice one Nikki LOL :grin: :grin: :grin:
I remember quite a few years ago Shayne Burgess told me that while trying to earn a few extra BDO points and a couple of quid along the way he traveled to play in East Germany. He got to the final and inquired how much money was up for grabs......he was speechless when told there was no cash prize....... but the winner did get a bench grinder and r/up a selection of sausages. Another gem from Mr Burgess.

Dear all
First and foremost this isn't about supporting a political party but promoting a sports event in my home Town of Blyth/BV Northumberland and in the process helping local clubs take in some well needed revenue just after Christmas. I would like to thank personally Stod & Tug for there help in promoting the sport of darts of which they love and organising this event in our local area in Jan 2015 with 188 Local/Regional darts players turning up for a guaranteed £1500 prize pot which local lad Gordon Dobey won. With the help of these lads this event would not have getting off the ground and on Saturday 30th January 2016 Ukip BV have decided to run this event once more and guarantee a £1651 prize money pot. We have already got 3 venues interested in holding our event in B.V in 2017 where the prize money will exceed £2000 regardless of entry. I am awaiting to here from Sue Williams chairman of the BDO regarding hosting an event in our town in 2020 if we can secure a minimum of 10k prize money, so rather than knock whoever is willing to promote the sport we should be applauding them. You are all more than welcome to attend this event and lets see how big we can grow this event in Northumberland/Northeast.
Yours In Sport
Alfie Patterson

So it's ok for a labour council to sponsor a competition just not UKIP?

Was the word "Labour" and their logo used on any branding or on stage?

And by that way of thinking Ginge are Saatchi and Saatchi aligning themselves with the Tories for taking money for advertising? If the PDC take sponsorship for a tournament from a betting firm are they then condoning gambling?
Your hatred for UKIP clouding your judgement here methinks

Dont be fucking stupid, it would be an horrendous idea for any darts org to align themselves with any political organisation.

Not at all, the deal with East Ridings wasn't a political alliance, it was made with the commercial department of a local authority, if you seriously think that the deal was between the BDO and the Labour party then you need your head examining.

What is so wrong with a political party sponsoring a tournament, Conservative, labour and liberal clubs do it all the time usually only for a hundred quid or so

And that's fine, those are events held in their own buildings and run by themselves. You can't expect a larger organisation like the BDO or PDC to do it though, it would polarise a huge chunk of their user base.
