Yep. Always add up each dart for just that reason:-

"How many left?"

I have seen some very experienced chalkers who constantly make the same mistake and that is they wait until all 3 darts are in the board before adding them up. Add them up one at a time as the darts land that means you only have one dart, the last one thrown, to add to the score of the first 2 which is already in your head before the thrower retrieves them. I appreciate that sometimes the second dart or third aren`t always totally visible so just leave them until the thrower is finished then move quickly to take a look.

Another thing is that people confuse number patterns with being a good chalker. I doubt anyone who plays or watches darts regularly adds up a treble 20 and two single 20`s... you already know it is 100. I doubt anyone here adds up treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 for a 141 finish, you already know, your eyes automatically switch from treble 20 to treble 19 and then to double 12 without thinking about it and if they miss the treble 19 most automatically know the third dart, more times than not, will go towards the treble 10. These are patterns and require no counting, to be a good chalker you need to get away from `patterns` and add up the darts instead, otherwise when a player is on 141 and hits treble 20, single 7 and asks you what is left you have to take time to calculate it.

I've marked VVDV against jelle, no problem, best marker in the pdc by miles ;)
"it's the same trolls spouting the same crap every other post.... you have to be some kind of sad act to watch nearly 8 hours of darts a day for 9 days just to post about how crap it is"

I've done VvdV & Nick Fullwell, MvG v Gando and Ricky Evans v Beaton all lightning fast games and fun to mark although I was drained after the first one as the hangover was still taking a little toll!

Marked for Jelle a couple of times no bother, had more trouble with Co as he goes via unexpected routes and can catch you off-guard! :)

Have to say this sound like me chalking, and when I played in my work tournament I had a nightmare chalking as I hadn't done it for about 9 months.

There's nothing wrong with patterns so long as you count as you go. In fact, I'd go so far to say that patterns are a good thing to learn - but know what's scored and what's left at the same time. And different patterns for different players as well. One player may choose T16 for 68, others go T20.

There's no point sitting with 141, seeing the first dart hit 60 and go in your head "That's 81 left" and not know where they are going after that.

It's when you are sat at 126, and looking at T19 for the first dart, and here a thud and see no dart and think "Where the heck has that gone" to see it sat in T16 or something, then you can end up scrambling to work out where you go from there. Marking someone who is quick the three darts can be in the board before you have chance to even look for the second dart!! But - that's all part of the fun of why we do it!!

Here's an unwanted record during a Youth County girls match - the longest leg ever called? 225 darts each before the managers agreed to go nearest to the bull, and the closer dart to the bull was in a treble....

Only way id chalk is when I lose a game as rules are in league games that the loser marks the following game

in which isn't very often at all for me :P :DDDC:

And remember fellow fifers v As jealousy is rife in some parts in fife

There's a darter fae Fife whom plays the game
and some player he is , Stevie's the name
No man sais he , shall stand in his way
there is no other when on his day

180's are easy, as dbles are so
When he stands at the oche, to put on a show
as his dart hits the bullseye , the other players pout
count 1, 2 and 3 game shot, over and out

Now come try and beat him , if you dare
but when Stevie's on fire, you better beware
Whose No1, on Fife's golden shore's
There's only one outcome, as Stevie's dart soars

This has been bugging me for a while now so let me correct it for you to copy and paste.
There's a darter fae Fife who plays the game
and some player he is, Stevie's the name
no man says he, shall stand in his way
there is no other when on his day

180s are easy, as doubles are so
when he stands at the oche, to put on a show
as his dart hits the bullseye, the other players pout

I've ignored the bits that make no sense i.e. "180s are easy, as doubles are so" should be "180s are easy, doubles are also" and I would recommend changing the last two lines to "who's No.1, on Fife's golden shore - there's only one outcome, as Stevie's darts soar"

There is no need for the most of the commas but I've left them in.

:DDDD: < -- Well sais Nikki boy and good for trying to upset my little piece of poetry in motion

but a kinda prefer it the way a made it up in which is facts as im the fifer whoms scored most 180s on the one evening

in a tournament game and in fact 4 x 180s in the one evening and also hit one in practice and some good ton plus outshots

whilst highest scorer for the whole season in the league hits approx 5 , 6 or 7 in the whole season

tells all that there is only one darter on fifes golden shores V

There's a darter fae Fife whom plays the game
and some player he is , Stevie's the name
No man sais he , shall stand in his way
there is no other when on his day

180's are easy, as dbles are so

But it isn't poetry, it's a random collection of misspelled words and bad grammar.

If you're going to post it at the end of each post at least make it grammatically correct or you just end up looking like an uneducated luddite.
