Obviously a lot of darts fans and Wade himself too as far as I've read in an interview.

I take on board people saying until Wade wins the Worlds he won't be an all time great but what about Jimmy White at snooker? Is Jimmy an all time great, if you say yes then surely James can be considered an all time great

That's what I think, if he wins the WC, then as well as all his other majors, he has to be considered, defeating Taylor or not, is irrevelant.

If Man City win the premier league, but lose home and away to Man Utd, does it tarnish their Success? As you could argue that United have been as dominant in the PL and Taylor is in the PDC

Darts is an individual sport which makes judgements like yours rather difficult to compare.

Wade did not beat Taylor being the title holder and No. 1 in the world, Adrian Lewis, world champion and No.2 in the world, Gary Anderson, No. 3 in the world etc.

The highest ranked player he beat was Terry Jenkins who, like Nicholson and Newton against Wade, could not repeat his previous performance.

On that basis, Martin Adams didnt beat a single seeded player on his way to the 2010 BDO title, therefore he didnt play the best either.

I was already a bit worried and wondered what took you so long to introduce Martin Adams into this discussion.
But it's appropriate here, yes, Martin's road to victory that year was paved with perfect asphalt.

Of course Wade is an all time great. To have won six majors in an era when the level of competition has never been more fierce is incredible. There are so many excellent players who have never come close to winning even one. Fair play to James, an amazing darts player.

I only saw Wade laughing a bit and Webby looking as someone who couldn't understand or appreciate the joke just made by the other.

Mark should have wrapped up that game of course but he froze in the end and James is like a pike, lurking and then striking...

That is like winning the Premiership seven times without having to play Manu or winning the Wimbledon seven times when Pete Sampras is injured. Wade mops up the great man's piss and doesnt mind the smell.
But Taylor wasn't injured!!!

Taylor was very much present in all of the Majors that Wade Won, but he wasn't good enough on any of those occasions to do what James did.

If Taylor was not in the tournaments, then you would have a point. :D

I believe that Liverpool did the double over Manchester United in the 2008/09 season. Did that take anything away from Uniteds success?? I think not!!

Stupid thread. :banghead:

wade is a very very good player but not a great ...yet-his best in the worlds champs is semi's and his major wins were against somewhat weakened fields-ie.e taylor going out and beating the likes of newton and mawson without being disrespectful wont make you a great when history judges you when your career is over- a win over mr t or a wc win would move him onto the great platform but until then great and james wade dont fit together ...yet

So when any of these young players coming through in the game now Wins a World Championship, you think it will be tarnished because Taylor was past it when they became Champions?

Wade Won all his Majors with Taylor competing in the tournaments!!

no it wont be tarnished if they win a wc-it's different eras like boxers-but wade played taylor h2h in the same era and as yet never won a major taking taylor out-to be a great of the game he will need to achieve this imo

So the criteria then is you have to be a World champion and beaten Taylor that makes Barney-Part and Priestley all time greats :| .

I think he's saying that if beating Taylor and being a World Champion means they are the only other all-time greats and Bristow/Lowe etc aren't, which makes a mockery of the idea.
