i think most players were in favour of the quieter pro tour events rather than the stupidly packed out venues with kids running around that they used to get...every bit of money is vital now on the pro tour and a missed £200 can cost you big time...i still remember the UK Open qualifier at BIg Wigs a few years ago and the place was so packed it was farcial...something had to be done really.
There is probably the fact that it is not the best preparation for TV crowds but i think having 8 Euro tour events with 64 players playing in front of big crowds will help an awful lot...many players will gain a lot of experience from these events , and of course the UK Open is played in front of a large crowd as well, so experience will be gained
Basically at the end of the day if a player is good enough he will be ok

I remember the old girl saying how bad the PDC events were at times with crowds right up to the oche etc , she thinks it's ideal conditions to throw good darts now.

Didn't they try to ban mobile phones from venue as well, or is that still the case

I believe that was because of the betting thing, I can see why it has been done but they didnt give any notice of it as far as I know.

I believe it is as a direct result of there being "live in play" betting available on the pro tour games. It has always been the case that mobile phones were asked to be kept switched off or on silent but you invariably always get one go off. I did hear a story about a player answering his phone whilst marking the board after losing and having quite a lengthy conversation to the shock/ horror of the two players. Can't remember who it was though

Do any bookmakers do the in play betting on Pro Tour, I noticed Sporting Bet did a couple of games, but that was it for them

As mentioned in the thread, a missed £200 can cost you big time so you need to have a settled environment.

You are not quite 3ft from where the players are throwing - I reckon about 15ft but it is close enough to see everything which is usually why I will stay to the end or as near as once I have finished marking.

Do complete strangers stand over you and chat whilst you're flipping your big macs? - no?
Well that's the ethos they want, a working environment without Joe public causing mayhem.
One also has to remember that public paid admission would also mean bigger venues, extra security, higher insurance and lots more unseen costs, costs which probably would not be covered by any revenue generated.
