Sponsors abandon Voornhout

Post by TeamMvG180 »

Kevin Voornhout's debut year is about to be coming to an end already. The talented Dutchman has neared the world's top 100, but it appears as if he won't be active on the Pro Tour this year anymore.

In an oral agreement with 'Markings', 'Badkamerwarenhuis' and 'Dartsnieuws.net', an arrangement was made that the three sponsors would take care of all the expenses (flight costs, accomodations and entry fees), and that they would get half of prize money won this year by Voornhout.

Voornhout would get a compansation of all the expenses made every month. At the end of April however, no money was transferred to the 18-year-old talent, who has beaten Wes Newton twice this year already. The companies said that ''this was due to the fact that they were busy, and that they would transfer the money at a later stage''. Voornhout, in the meantime, properly gave the sponsors the fifty percent of the prize money that they were entitled to.

Four months later it turns out that these were empty promises. The companies have stopped sponsoring and have declined to send back the prize money to the PDC-debutant. The result of all this is that Voornhout can't play any PDC-tournaments until he has found a new sponsor. Finding one will mean that the Dutchman ''can at least keep his chances at a spot in the World Darts Championship alive.''

Tbh I've seen written contracts reneged, hope he pulls a sponsor as he is a class act.

You have to feel sorry for him but it does show that when it comes to sponsorship when you are handing over half your winnings then this should be done legally and legally signed by both parties..

Maybe the companies were expecting an almost MVG return on his winnings and were expecting a lot more return coming in to them ...if so they were totally unrealistic for an 18 year old in his first year....

Ever?
As in it's 3 and a half year history?

Doubtful, they gave them out on the youth tour.

I just can't understand it, I thought that once you were on the lucrative PDC professional circuit you would have no money worries, you only have to win one game to get into the money.

Why does everyone seem to rely on sponsorship? Are the prize funds just not that good?
