For the third year in a row, Michael van Gerwen won an exhibition tournament at Lakeside. The Dutchman is on a exhibition tour through England together with some compatriots such as Vincent van der Voort and other top foreign top darters.

After his victory in Preston on Thursday, ‘Mighty Mike’ was too strong in Frimley Green on Friday night. Van Gerwen was the boss with a 4-3 victory in an exciting finale Danny Noppert.

Noppert had previously knocked Raymond van Barneveld (4-3) and James Wade (4-3) out of the tournament. Van Barneveld defeated Vincent van der Voort in the quarterfinals after playing a deciding leg. Van Gerwen had victories over Wayne Mardle (4-3) and Justin van Tergouw (4-1) on his way to the final.

On Saturday evening Van Gerwen also won in Bristol in an exhibition together with Van der Voort, Mardle, Van Tergouw and Phil Taylor. Peter Wright was also booked for this event, but has had to sign out due to health problems.

Quarter final

Toon Greebe was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. The 29-year-old darter who has competed in both the PDC and most recently the BDO from Den Bosch had an infection in his foot.

Gary Anderson was not amused on Friday night with a dismissive gesture made by Phil Taylor during the Scot’s turn. The incident happened at the end of the World Championship quarter-final meeting between the two, which 16-time world champion Taylor won 5-3.

Jelle Klaasen has released news on Facebook this morning of him leaving both his management stable and manufacturer of his darts to start 2018 and with scrapping of entry fees for this season, other darts players will be joining Jelle in potentially switching to better management deals.

Michael van Gerwen has questioned the ability of BDO players to participate in PDC tournaments. The BDO now provides eight participants for the Grand Slam of Darts, while BDO players can also compete in the UK Open through Riley’s Qualifiers.
