Will the Durrant story change darts?
Lot of discussion on here about the legality of the 'contract'.
But for the first time it has been discussed openly in comms on TV and in interviews.
Will this and the Q School situation this year bring this to the table an hopefully change the BDO's stance?

Re: Will the Durrant story change darts?
The players could change the BDO's stance.....they have the power and need to know that......they don't have to sign the contract....no players..no Lakeside..no TV deal...chaos......get a backbone players

The contract has worked very well in this instance, you can't blame the BDO for trying to retain their champion. Just wish they would use their top players to promote themselves a little more i.e get Duzza on QOS or similar and let the public know that there is still a decent alternative to the chav darts they watch on Sky. A lot of folk are saying on social media that yesterday was one of the greatest days ever in darting history, excellent close matches played with the utmost respect by the players and watched by a fantastic, appreciative and knowledgable crowd, people need to see more of this side of darts, it's so much better than it's alternative.

Not one bit, look through the social media pages and you will find many supportive comments on this subject. You have to admit yourself that this is far more entertaining to watch than the alternative Worlds.TheSandman wrote:How many times did you laugh writing that.Paddy McGinty wrote:The contract has worked very well in this instance, you can't blame the BDO for trying to retain their champion. Due to contractual ties which prevent BDO players who make the semi-final or final from switching codes immediately after the World Championships, Durrant set the record straight ahead of his second round tie against Daryyl Fitton earlier this week, confirming his intention to have a crack at the PDC Q-School had he not made it past the last eight.
But he also said that if he did advance to the last four or further, he would commit his future to the BDO, which he confirmed on Channel 4 after his marathon match.
With that matter resolved, the Teessider’s only focus is now on lifting the trophy once more and in doing so joining an elite list of players to have defended the Lakeside crown.

So they think it's resolved.......I would take that "for Life" comment with a pinch of salt, can't see him holding to that.ChrisW wrote:http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/glen ... r-14149668

BDO World Darts Championship: Glen Durrant defiant over PDC chances after win
GLEN DURRANT and Scott Waites staged astonishing comebacks this afternoon to set up what could be a classic semi-final tomorrow at the BDO World Darts Championships at Lakeside.
Both men came back from 4-1 down to triumph 5-4, and for defending champion Durrant it means he is a BDO player for the rest of his career.
Durrant was on the way out against close friend Jim Williams.
But he turned the match around and by reaching the last four, he is contracted to return here next year.
Durrant has no plans to switch codes to bid for a place in the PDC.
“I am a BDO player for life,” said Durrant.
“But to win this match against Jim, I am so emotional.
"He should have won.
"It is bitter sweet for me, he will be world champion one day, I love him to bits.”
Both players just stood on the oche looking and drained at the finish but Durrant remains on course to become only the fourth man behind Eric Bristow, Raymond Van Barneveld and Martin Adams to retain the Lakeside crown.

Ask Robert Holmes.

Depends on what comms said. We're they positive or negative?ChrisW wrote:Lot of discussion on here about the legality of the 'contract'.

Will this and the Q School situation this year bring this to the table an hopefully change the BDO's stance?
Also on those articles above the full story is not being given. They mention he is now contracted to return. The point that he would go pdc if there were no contracts needs to be highlighted. And more importantly the fact they would refuse to pay him if he did. Media coverage of these 2 points could bring change.

It is correct, he is contracted to return, it has nothing to do with the PDC.devosteve wrote:Depends on what comms said. We're they positive or negative?ChrisW wrote:Lot of discussion on here about the legality of the 'contract'.

Alexis Sanchez is contracted to play for Arsenal until the end of the season..what are the chances of that happening ...zero....contracts are broken..
If Glen loses today then leave....he wants it...he should do it....

Re: Will the Durrant story change darts?
Serious question. Nothing to do with the pdc? So if he doesn't sign up for q school he will get paid. If he doesn attend lakeside next year (let's say he decides he is going to 2019 q school ) are you saying he would then be breaking his contract and technically could be sued for the return of his winnings?ifm wrote:It is correct, he is contracted to return, it has nothing to do with the PDC.devosteve wrote:Depends on what comms said. It looks that way. So he retires and they can sue him? Piece of nonsense.devosteve wrote:Serious question. Nothing to do with the pdc? So if he doesn't sign up for q school he will get paid. Re: Will the Durrant story change darts?
Genuine question. If glen "retired" then played UK open qualifiers and the GSOD. Could he potentially make enough on the OOM to qualify for ally pally. He wouldn't need to attend q-school this year so wouldn't break the contract
Re: Will the Durrant story change darts?
He’s not a member of the PDPA. And you don’t need to be to play in those events. Only by qualifying for other events by other methods, must you become a member.clemy1989 wrote:Genuine question. Duzza should switch.... He's good enough to make the top 16 imo as he had shown in the Grand Slam....
Shame about the contractual issue though....
