Lakeside 2018 Averages
As with the PDC version, round-by-round averages compared with 2017 - 2011. Match averages weighted by number of legs. I'll do an individual version for each player at the end. 2006 onwards only three years have had a better L32 average, and it's about par for recent years. I think people on here have short memories!

Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
I think people think everything at Lakeside used to be better, whereas in fact everything at the PDC used to be worse. And of course the names moving on. For example, the 2006 QFs were like this:Dannyboy wrote:That does surprise me
(90.18) Jelle Klaasen 5 V 4 Paul Hogan (87.39)
(87.09) Shaun Greatbatch 5 V 3 Paul Hanvidge (85.38)
(88.98) Martin Adams 5 V 2 Mike Veitch (88.89)
(93.93) Raymond van Barneveld 5 V 3 Tony O Shea (89.25)
Stunning quality all round I think you'll agree!
Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
Yes it's certainly suffered in comparison with the huge growth and improvements at the PDC and suffers from immediately following Ally Pally which just gets better and better......it's held its standard ,especially for the latter stages but just cannot compete with the whole PDC package with its standard and glitz and glamour ...and of course money....
Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
It's shit
Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
Ignoring the averages for a moment, you have a player in the final (who is number one in the org) who is nothing more than decent. There are dozens of McGeeney standard players in the PDC. He is going to get ragdolled by Durrant like he was Ratajski.

Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
Durrant staying has in some ways made the BDO less interesting as he is different class to the rest. Given several top ranked players will switch each year he could easily win the next 3 or 4 lakesides.
Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
Yep. A total level above everyone but Scott Waites - but whether Scott gets his top form back is another question entirely. Durrant aside there is a clutch of decent/good players but that is really as far as it goes. Averages may have stayed largely the same but it would be very diffcult to make a case that the level of player hasn't decreased. When an average player like Mark McGeeney can make the BDO's two biggest finals and to the top of the rankings it makes the point perfectly.Astonvilla wrote:Durrant staying has in some ways made the BDO less interesting as he is different class to the rest. Re: Lakeside 2018 Averages
On that note - now that McGeeney is auto-qualified for the next Lakeside for the first time, will he too start to decrease his tournament load? Durrant might play even less than he did in 2017, and Waites also isn't known for doing the circuit when he doesn't have to. Next year's top 2 seedings could make us nostalgic for this year's.
